Has Wizkid Abandoned His Star Boys? by holuwertobex(m): 8:57pm On Jul 21, 2018

When you’re as big and celebrated as Wizkid, it’s ‘always impossible’ to be on the wrong side of anything. In fact, everyone believes your are right about whatever move or decision you take. This is the story of Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun whom we have come to collectively admire as
Wizkid .

Before becoming the Starboy he is today, banging several international collaborations, performing on global stages, making it up to Billboard number 1 and strutting the runway for Dolce and Gabbana, Wizkid used to be mentored by his majesty, the king of Nigerian R&B, Banky W.

Under the watch of Olubankole Wellington, his career flourished as he became the first to ever do it at a very young age around this clime.
From “Holla At Your Boy”, “Don’t Dull”, “Love My Baby”, “Pakrumo” to the entire “Superstar” album, his fame shattered glass ceilings and was space bound. It got to a point EME wasn’t enough room for him, he had to breakout find new grounds to grow further.

Today, Wizkid is honcho to Starboy Entertainment & Starboy Worldwide . Since putting his feet down and settling into being his own boss, the “Show You The Money” singer has been a one man army, besides his producers, management & back room staff. That ceased momentarily when he picked up Damilola Afolabi aka LAX into the Starboy fold in 2013.

The two hit it off real quick with “Caro”, a tune which eventually became the biggest song on LAX’s discography to date. A few years later LAX is no more on Starboy Entertainment.

Back in 2016, Wizkid performed in Ghana and talked about signing Ghanaian songstress Efya, R2Bees and Mr Eazi to Starboy Worldwide . It seems they do a few things together and the fold again divides. Up in 2017, Mr Eazi granted an interview and said he was never signed to Starboy Worldwide, Wizkid never really offered him a deal bla bla bla.

It’s December 24,2017 at Eko Hotel & Suites precisely #Wizkidtheconcert where the starboy verbally signed an impressive young rapper, Ahmed on stage to his label. Fast forward to 2018, Wizkid again welcomes a new kid Terri to Starboy. A record “Soco” is released which features potential starboys Spotless, Ceeza Milli. As usual “Soco” turns out to be a mega jam.

The problem here is that nothing has been heard from the new ‘starboys’ again. It’s been months since they were allegedly signed and Terri especially doesn’t have a solo single out yet under the imprint. Let’s say young Ahmed is preoccupied with school. Spotless, Ceeza Milli were only blessed to feature on the “Soco” record, that leaves behind Terri who Wizkid announced to be on the label.
Judging from the pattern, it inspires a bit of doubt that Wizkid may drop off these “starboys” unceremoniously from his label sooner or later. Since nothing has been heard from them, also from the look of things it feels Wizzy isn’t carrying them along as much as possible or as would be expected from a mentor.

So I ask – has Wizkid abandoned his star boys?

Whenever he smokes Igbo, he forgets those he promised to sign or why he even signed them in the first place
