The University of Ibadan (UI) in Oyo State has been ranked as the best university in Nigeria in the July Webometric ranking of world universities topping University of Lagos (Unilag) and University of Ilorin (uniilorin).

While the Ibadan-based institution took the first position among 100 Nigerian tertiary institutions, it however was rated 905 in the world.

While Afe Babalola University (ABUAD), Ado-Ekiti was rated as the best private university in the country, having emerged second overall best in Nigeria and 2,287 in the world by the Spain-based Webometrics

The third position for the best university in Nigeria goes to another private varsity, Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, and 2,824 in the world ahead of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, which rated fourth in Nigeria and 3,050 in the world.
