What does the Bible say about feminism?

Question: "What does the Bible say about feminism? Should a Christian be a feminist?"

Answer: This question is especially important to Christian women. Does the Word of God address feminism? The modern concept of feminism was not present during the time that the Bible was written, but that does not mean the Bible has nothing to say on the basic issues of feminism. Even when the Scriptures seem to be silent on something that affects us today, there are eternal principles that speak to the underlying issue.

First, we should define feminism , since the term can have different meanings for different people. Basically, feminism is a philosophy that advocates equal rights for women and men—socially, politically, economically, and in other ways. Early feminists fought for and won suffrage for women. Today’s feminism goes further than demanding equal treatment of men and women, however. Modern feminists fight for language equality (saying “chairperson” instead of “chairman,” even if the person in question is male) and
gender equality (redefining femininity and masculinity). The more radical feminists actively seek to overthrow any vestige of male dominance in society, to the point of opposing the biblical roles of husbands and wives , defending abortion on demand, and promoting lesbianism .

Radical feminists deny there is any difference between men and women, teaching that any perceived differences between the sexes are due solely to social conditioning.

Modern feminism is a counterfeit solution to the real issue of the inequality of women in a sinful society. Feminism arrogates to itself the right to demand respect and equality in every aspect of life.
Feminism is based in arrogance, and it is the opposite of the call to the born-again believer to be a servant. The modern, militant feminists call women to rise up and rebel against the order that God has given to mankind. That brand of feminism seeks to impose humanistic values in direct opposition to the Word of God.

Feminism was originally a positive movement, focused on giving women the basic rights God intends for every human being to have. Tragically, feminism now focuses on destroying all distinctions in the roles of men and women.
What then should be a Christian’s view of feminism?

A believing woman, who is seeking to obey God and walk in peace and grace, should remember that she has equal access to all spiritual blessings in Christ. “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28).

A believing woman should not allow herself to be used as a pawn in the worldly agenda of the feminist movement. Men and women have a God-given privilege to fulfill the plan He has set for us. Rebellion against that plan and the arrogance that seeks to put self above God’s Word bring difficult consequences.

We see those consequences in the destruction of the relationship between husbands and wives, the destruction of the family, and the loss of respect for human life.
“For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world” (1 John 2:16).

The principles of the fall are present in this verse. Eve believed the lie that eating the fruit would bring her wisdom. She lusted, and she took something that was forbidden. This is the basis for the modern feminist movement. Women have bought into the lie that feminism will bring them the power and freedom they think they want and deserve. However, the promise is empty, for the premise is rooted in pride—and pride goes before a fall (Proverbs 16:18).

The last decades have seen the rise of a society that is so concerned with political correctness and so sensitive to being “offended” that civility has lost its way. However, this is really nothing new, for there has always been inequality in the world. It is sad but true that artificial barriers have always divided humanity—barriers that have no basis in God’s Word. It is sin in the heart that causes inequality.

It is sin that causes men to treat women in ways that are meant to demean or objectify them. And it is sin that seeks counterfeit solutions to counteract these inequalities.

The only true cure for inequality is obedience to God’s Word. If men and women would walk in obedience to God’s Word, radical feminism would be seen for what it is, and the harmony that God has ordained between men and women would result.

the scourge of feminism is distroying the family unit and some heretics are bringing it into the church in the name of women preachers.

2 Peter 2:1
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

a woman should build her home, love her husband and her children and not be carried away with any amazement.

Titus 2:4
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

1 Peter 3:6
Even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

Ephesians 5:22
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

Ephesians 5:23
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

Ephesians 5:24
Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

1. the husband is the head of the wife
2. the wife is to submit to the husband in everything even in matters concerning herself
3. she should submit to her husband as unto the Lord
not less.

she has no right to take decisions for herself but to abide. by whatever the husband says.

this is against the tenets of the modern woman.

Romans 8:7
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

lie!

God don't determine everything on earth!

Humans were given the power to decide on certain things .

Equality and rights are what humans should create for themselves.

Females are different type of humans does not mean that males should infringe on their rights.
Being submissive to their husband's at home is their right and nature and should not be equated to weakness .

A man who has decided to treat his wife equally by giving her,her own respect inspite the differences is his own determination, not God.

Why does it matter, women and men have equal rights, no one is above the other.

The idea of the "head of the family" is a really outdated one, a woman could be the breadwinner and the husband the caretaker. Why does society have to stick with gender roles??

the op, wasn't faulty in the first place.
Your last statement saying that men do not determine what equality or right should be is very faulty.

And if this your last statement is a deduction from the op, then the op is a mess already, geared at messing up christianity and downgrading it before unbelievers and God will not be happy with you.

Christianity world-wide upholds justice and equity at all levels including how men should relate with women and that's what the bible teaches.

Perhaps the op is reasoning scriptures based on primitive African mentality which is already outdated a long time ago

As far as Christianity is concern the word of God defines how we should live and our right.

Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

1 Corinthians 3:19
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

2 Corinthians 4:4

very true!
Now, you will agree with me that times are changing and mankind are evolving from one level of moral consciousness to a better level as people are getting more educated over time?
That the way things were in the days those scriptures you quoted above were documented are not the same with the way things are now, that times have changed?

The word of God is those days was straight foward and simple, Jesus is the christ believe in him and be saved but very few people understood and believe that and others thought it was a foolish message. that was why those scriptures put it that God has choosen the foolish things to confound the wise.

Today, we have billions of people who have believed in christ and are all saved, so your thinking that the world is in wickedness is only subjected to you, not all Christians think like that.

Whenever you read scriptures like all the ones you quoted, ask yourself these questions :
-when was these scriptures written?
-why was the scriptures written?
-To whom were the scriptures referring to?
-does these scriptures truly apply to todays reality?

Because, certainly these scriptures were referring to people of the days they were written as the writers saw them, not these days again.

do you know that what you read in previous reply are the words of God. God 's word is for all generation.
This generation is very foolish, thinking they are wiser than their creator.
Do you know that the pharisees of Jesus days saw themselves as better than their forefathers who killed the prophets but ended killing the Son of God Jesus christ.

that is not the word of God.
That is what you choose to see in the bible.

I have explained to you that bible writers saw it in their days that it was Satan ruling their world going by the high level of atrocities(men enslaving men which is not common these days) committed by men in those days. They even killed Jesus christ.

Wake up, you can't continue to live in the days of the bible saying it is the word of God.
Today's world is blessed with so much knowledge and technological advancement such that life is a very simple and enjoyable one for those who take advantage of the current trend and this is how God want us to live our lives as Christians.

Which devil?

Na only Africans devil dey rule over this days, not in the real world.
Simply because Africans has choosen to be ignorant people and they are the one even carrying church and bible for head pass white men who brought christianity to Africa.
Yet to even understand the bible how it applies to real life they cannot.
