Right now I’m about to tell you several reasons the cockroaches are important to humanity. Cockroaches are actually disgusting insects. My sister has the “gift” of perceiving their latrine odour from about 20 meters away. That’s truly a “gift” I must say.

Out of 4600 species, just 30 of those species live with humans. These insects can hold their breath for 40 minutes, they are super fast, just like mice, cockroaches can squeeze through the smallest of cracks, they eat about any thing, and in fact they are cannibals. And here is they craziest, they can live about 9 days without their heads which when they die, they die of starvation.

I have given you all the wrong reasons to hate this insect even more. I forgot, cockroaches do not bite but the spread diseases fast. Everything with a disadvantage has an advantage.

Medical Uses of Cockroaches

Daily Trust online published a journal in March 2018 on scientists study of medical usage of the cockroach. The research was led by one Li Sheng, director of institute of insect Science and Technology at South China Normal University in Guangzhou City.

According to Li, a cockroach has as many as 522 taste receptors, 329 of which have evolved into bitter receptors that respond to poisonous foods. They eat almost any thing, they can detoxify themselves if they eat the wrong food. Even if it is beheaded, its body can still move for days. If you cut its legs or antennae off, they will recover in just a few days and look almost the same as before.

He suggested that the factor in the body of the cockroach that helps it heal wounds and regenerate tissue might also be effective in repairing wounds to human body. Cockroaches are part of the ingredient in Traditional Chinese medicine, which has been helpful in treating gastric and oral ulcers.

If we do not have roaches, then people in the disinfection business would not have a job. For every action, there is a reaction. Therefore, cockroaches and many other insects inspire these companies to produce agents for the public at large. The production of insecticides creates jobs for thousands of people round the world. We also have professional pest control agencies, they majorly exist for the extermination of this insect.

They feed on dirt

Roaches eat everything, I mean almost everything: fruits, glue, feces, you name it! They have even taken to eating other cockroaches to settle their rumbling stomach. That alone depicts its cannibalistic nature. Therefore they eat a lot of trash, which makes your surrounding cleaner.

You should also know that, they are more likely to breed in unhealthy places. So, the presence of a lot of them in the kitchen or bedroom, for instance, should tell you something is wrong with your hygiene.

In China, a lot of farmers make money by breeding thousands of cockroaches. Since they are delicacy in China the price of dried cockroaches has risen from 3 dollars per pound to 20 dollars. Chinese richest farmer with six farms breeds about 10 million cockroaches. He appreciates the fact that the reproduction of cockroaches is very fast. He sells a lot of them to restaurants, drugstores and medical factories.


Cockroaches Are Edible

Cockroaches are delicious delicacies in many parts of the world. They correct way to eat them a Japanese man said is to fry them at least two times in a work of smoking oil. The second time makes its body crispy and the inside succulent. Sounds disgusting right?. Make sure they are well spiced for best result.
