The night belonged to him so also was the prestigious award as Real Madrid's Luka Modric won the Uefa player of the year for the 2017/2018 season. Modrid beat mercurial forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohammed Salah to win the award. The Croatian was part of a stellar Real Madrid side that marched to their third straight Champions league title win last season. He also led his country to the final of the 2018 world cup where he was also voted as the player of the tournament despite losing to France. Ronaldo will be a little disappointed after missing out on the award given his goalscoring records in the Champions league in the previous season.
