EBONYI STATE GOVERNMENT INCREASES CORPS MEMBERS ALLOWANCE FROM SEPTEMBER
The Ebonyi state Governor, David Umahi says he will from September this year increase the monthly allowances serving youth corps members in the state to N10, 000.
The governor made this declaration on Sunday in Abakaliki while opening the maiden David Umahi Tertiary Institution Games (DUMTIGA) at the Pa Ngele Oruta Stadium, Abakaliki.
He said the government was extending the gesture because the corps members have shown commitment to the cause of their fatherland.

ONDO POLYTECHNIC ASUP SEEK RELEASE OF WHITE PAPER
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State has called for immediate release of the White Paper on various panels’ reports on the state-owned institution.
The union also decried the prolonged delay in the release of the documents, calling for their immediate implementation.
This was contained in a communiqué issued after its emergency meeting over the weekend and signed by the secretary of the Arikawe Ade.

RECTOR OF KOGI STATE POLYTECHNIC FINALLY STEPS DOWN
The Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Mr. Isah Mohammed has finally stepped down.
He has officially handed over to the Deputy Rector, Dr. Attah Haruna who will be on acting capacity pending when a substantive Rector is appointed by the visitor of the Polytechnic, Alhaji Yahaya Bello Governor of Kogi State.
The school’s Public Relations Officer, Luke Tijani confirmed the development, saying, ” Mr. Mohammed has officially handed over to his Deputy, Dr. Attah Haruna. As I’m talking to you now, plans are already in place to appoint a substantive Rector. But for now, Dr. Haruna will be on acting capacity before a substantive Rector is appointed.”

2,835 GRADUATES JOSTLE FOR NDDC FOREIGN SCHOLARSHIPS
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has picked 2,835 candidates out of over 4,000 applicants, who applied for the commission’s foreign postgraduate scholarships this year.

The Director of Education, Health and Social Services, Mr Goshua Okejoto, made the disclosure in a statement, issued by the commission’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ibitoye Abosede, in Port Harcourt on Monday.
Okejoto said the commission had conducted computer-based tests to select qualified candidates for the scholarship scheme, which commenced in 2010.

NANS SPLITS AS SPLINTER GROUP REAWAKENS NUNS
The umbrella body of students in the country, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has split, with the splinter group returning to the defunct National Union of Nigerian Students (NUNS).
NUNS, which was proscribed by the military government of General Olusegun Obasanjo in April 1978, was resuscitated after the election of its national executives at Kaduna Polytechnic at the weekend.
The executives of the revived NUNS are led by Comrade Salaudeen Lukman, a student of Geology and Mineral Science from Kwara State University, Malete, Ilorin.
