Price often paid by a bossy boss: be a loving and considerate boss
An electrical engineer narrates some of his field experiences so that we can learn great lessons about leadership. I was able to pick out one outstanding experience. We can all learn from this experience. One day, we can be in a position of leadership either manager, CEOs, directors and so on.
Here is the story: A factory owner in the heart of Port Harcourt city who owns a plastic industry is mean, inconsiderate and not appreciative of his workers. At first, his attitude paid off because he demanded their respects and they forceful give it to him. They work very hard for him even without his supervisions. He develops policies and rules that are not so easy to comply with. Any workers whatsoever who breaks the rules will face the penalty of salary cut. This goes on for a long time.
On the long run, the workers developed a strategy to pay their master back in an unpleasant way. Anytime their boss cut their salary, they will also tamper with the electrical panels of the machine by removing a wire or any essential part of the machine. Then, the machine will break down and there will be downtime of production.
In other to repair the machine, especially during their peak production period, the boss will call his electrical engineer from Osun state. He will pay for his flight, book his accommodation and cater for his feeding. The scheming workers will tell the electrical engineer of their plans and they will all agree on how to share the money that will be paid to him.
The boss is always not at work during weekends. So the work done during the weekends is without his supervision. The engineer will not touch any single thing until he inform the factory owner that the job is done.
How is the job done? The workers will correct what they have done intentionally or fix back the wire or the electrical component. Then, the engineer will share the money accordingly.
For many years, the engineer earn the praise of the factory owner for good jobs.
