ASUU Lasu Charade: We Are Wiser Now, University Management Responds by seungbanja: 9:52pm On Sep 14, 2018
A blind hen, accustomed to scratching the earth in search of food, continued daily to scratch away most diligently. Another sharp-sighted hen who spared her tender feet never moved from her side, but enjoyed, without much scratching, the fruit of the other 's labour. Everytime the blind hen scratched up a grain, the opportunist companion devoured it.

We may, out of being humans, overlook the laziness and manipulative tendencies of the sharp-sighted hen, but what should not be condoned by anyone of good conscience is the folly and inaneness of the blind hen. Because it's simple mindedness may soon lead it to destruction.

The few individuals claiming to be representing ASSU LASU are back with another episode of their farce. This time, the plot is to embark on a retrogressive and inciting protest, in cohort of some zonal ASUU leadership, ERC and JAF, in areas of the state against the Management of Lagos State University.

We consider it unfortunate how low the once revered ASUU leadership, and some elements in ERC, in identifying with and trying to defend brazen illegality of a few of its members and financiers, have sunk. Putting the bodies in a position where a few 'smart' individuals use them to unsettle a peaceful system, one that promotes law and order, should concern all well meaning stakeholders.

While we are tempted not to join issues with them on the planned charade, we also owe it a responsibility to our ever supportive stakeholders and General Public to present an accurate position on some of the allegations being bandied about and for which they are justifying a protest.

By presenting the issues as comprehensible as possible, the Management also hopes that the unsuspecting foot soldiers and those sympathizing with them can see into the shenanigans of the few individuals in ASUU LASU and make a dignifying volte face to prevent them from throwing the education sector, which they are veritable stakeholders of, into further ridicule.

1. The Dismissal of Dr Oyewunmi and Dr Suenu: On this case, the few individuals claiming to be fighting for ASUU and it's cohorts should stop beating a dead horse. As we have stated time and time again, the cases of money for marks and alteration of students results in contravention of extant rules and regulations of the University respectively, were levelled against them and in line with statutory disciplinary mechanisms in the University, they were investigated and found culpable and thus dismissed by the Governing Council of the University. The Management is aware that the concerned individuals have taken the matter to court. Therefore, we will make no further comment on it until the cases are decided.

2. Panel of Investigation Against Dr Tony Dansu and Dr Adeolu Oyekan: Management considers the furore over ongoing investigations into allegations of several infractions arising from the interviews granted to media outfits and theft of official document, unauthorized removal, retention and circulation of official documents against two members of Academic Staff, Dr Tony Dansu and Dr Adeolu Oyekan rather uncalled for. It is nothing but a pre-emptive attempt to hinder the course of justice.

Since no one is above the law, it would amount to double standards for the University Authority to look the other way or overlook the evil machinations of these few individuals who have been vehemently rejected by students and staff, and now resorted to engaging mercenaries from ERC, JAF etc to help them justify their act of impunity when it is suspected that misconducts as spelt out in the conditions of service have been carried out simply because they are leaders of ASUU.

The individuals and their sympathizers are therefore advised to exercise patience and let the disciplinary mechanism of the institution run its course.

They can be assured that the University Management and the Governing Council would act as appropriate base on the outcome of the investigative panels and in strict compliance with the conditions of service guiding the university. The innocent has nothing to fear.

Finally, the University Management urges all Staff and Students to remain steadfast and resist any attempt to cajol or threaten them into joining their retrogressive course. Their aim is clear: to plunge the University into another round of crisis. Be reminded that it is their usual practice, one which they had used to full effect in the past to unsettle the system. But we are wiser now, we will not be deceived, therefore, that mission is dead on arrival.

We are LASU we are proud.
