Five things that should cheer you up when you feel the world had its ass in your face.

With the title being as self-explanatory as it can possibly be, I’m just going to delve right into it.

We all have those days when it feels the universe is all out against us. We feel sad but can’t pinpoint jack of it. As seemingly normal as it is, we shouldn’t wallow in them, or accept it as a justification for how we feel.

Highlighted below are five actions that should get you back up in no time when you fall into that gloom.

1. Stop and Laugh

Laughter - yeah, the only thing worse than talking back to someone who feels too big and important to be talked back to, is smiling at the person. It might as well read, oh well you're silly, but uh ah, I won't be the one to tell you that, oh wait look at me smiling at your ignominy. I might very well just be the person.

So your current worry could wear a human face for this to be more effective. Say, the face of your boss? Or that cashier at the bank who makes it look like she's doing you the biggest favour by collecting your money at the bank.

Best cure for all problems, recommended by the doctors themselves!

2. Revisit your plans and make assertions
What did you do wrong, what factors didn't you consider and what are the probable possibilities of getting to the place you wanted to be?

Basically, your current mood could be reared by a lot of a lot of factors; disappointment, frustration about something not having worked the way you expected, loss, and other uncontrollable elements. But here's what can happen when you decide not to let any of that get in your way. You move faster, explore other options and reassure yourself the reason for getting into whatever, in the first place. Things happen, people change and worse, fate rears its nice back side...but not letting any of that get to you should be the reason you have to keep at whatever it is that you are doing and find what inspires you.

3. Take a deep breath, and give yourself time to relax.

Everyone has a bad day, and just because you feel the way you do, doesn't mean you are the only one going through your problems.

4. Don't think too much about it

No, this isn't a contradiction, think about the problems with a view to finding a solution to them not think about your problems and beat yourself about it.

4.5 Call a friend

Yes, this is a line from the infamous *Who wants to be a millionaire* game show. And yes, you really should try it. You don't have to say anything, and you can totally say everything. Sharing your problems doesn't solve them - every time, but it eases the weight of it hence the line “a problem shared is one half solved.”

Cliché, but it works. Tried and Tested.

5. Take a drive and crank that music up – and if you don't have a car, borrow one.

Yes, get out. Don't hole yourself in sulking. Get some fresh air, and take a night drive, smile at the wind as it caresses your face and show the universe how in control of your life you are. Play the music to the loudest and dance like no one is watching, because people definitely are, and they are probably wondering if you're on some kind of high but shhh, they don't matter.

And bonus,

Stare at the mirror and tell yourself how blessed the world is to have you.
Because it is.
