South African actress Shoki Mokgapa dies at the age of 34 after a long battle with clinical depression. Her management on Thursday afternoon confirmed that she took her own life.

“After a long struggle with clinical depression she took her life on Tuesday 25th of September at the age of 34. She was a brave woman who had been seeking help but the disease proved to be stronger than she was,” read part of the statement.

Depression is not a joke o. That sh!t eats up your mind and soul. Unfortunately it's become increasingly common in this part of the world. Suffered by both the rich and poor, employed and unemployed, etc. Anybody can be affected, so accessible and simple ways of identifying and helping patients should be introduced, especially in schools, work places and places of worship. May her soul rest in peace. And to the people going through same, suicide does not end pain. It only transfers it to another person/people. Think about the pain heartache you'll cause others.

Depression to me is a survival mechanism put in place for people to never repeat a failure again. If one bounces back from a bout they get immune to the stimulus which triggered it in the first place.
I can go on a long intellectual discourse about how it works but it's not needed neither is it appreciated in such a discussion board.
I don't even see why one should kill him/herself over such if it doesn't affect their chance of survival hence my examples of terminal illness, war zones etc.

I have clinical depression since 2016 November when I was 19, because I'm on the autism spectrum and because of some experiences I had here in Nigeria which people living in Nigeria never understand but the Holy Spirit have been helping me. I must confess I thought of suicide when I was nineteen.

Who knows if that actress had autism?
