Luis Enrique refused to talk about his decision to leave out Jordi Alba or the fact there is just one Barcelona player in the Spain squad.

The coach stood down as Barcelona coach in the summer of 2017 and he was known to have had a bust up with Alba.

"I will not talk about those that are not here, it is not a taboo but I am not going to talk about those who aren't here," said Luis Enrique when asked about Alba.

Sergio Busquets is the only Barcelona player in the squad with Sergi Roberto injured and Gerard Pique having retired from international football.

"This is all more to do with the press, no one in the street asks me these things," said Luis Enrique.

"People want Spain to win, we have a 23-man squad which is my team and it is not about clubs."

Luis Enrique has picked a squad for upcoming games against Wales and England.
"There are four injured players and we will see what happens today," he explained.
"I don't understand all the fuss about whether he will or not be there before the list. I am just looking for the best for the Spain team, my team."

He went on to say that Diego Costa is not fit while Paco Alcacer is in the squad on his present form.

"He (Costa) is injured and there is nothing more to it than that," he stated.
"It is the first time it has happened for me and I will take the chance to see other players, it makes it competitive and nobody takes it easy. An injury is always bad but it can have something positive. I always decide for sporting reasons and not personal.

"I know Alcacer well, in Valencia he did very well, in Barcelona he did not have as many minutes and now he is playing and scoring so for that reason he is here."

Spain do not have many options at centre half and Luis Enrique has called up Marc Barta from Betis.

"There are few on this list that I know better than Marc, he has qualities and a few defects, and I will work so that his best qualities are shown," he continued.
"I am open to any possibility, we are trying thing that we think will benefit us but we have shown that we can do damage with our style of play."
