Congratulations are in order for Chia Diko Detimbir, who will today hold his Passing out Parade, convocation, pipping & presidential commissioning from the Nigerian Defence Academy to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant into the Nigerian Army.

The cadet was 14 years old when he discovered the Nigerian Air Force Dornier 228 aircraft which crashed on the Ngokugh Hills, Mbakunu Shangev -ya local government Area of Benue State, 12 years ago.

On Sunday 17th September 2006, a Nigerian Air Force plane Dornier 228 conveying Senior Military personnel to Obudu for a conference crashed at Ngokugh Hills, Mbakunu Shangev-ya in Kwande LGA of Benue state, killing 13 of the officers while 5 of them were rescued courtesy of a telephone call from the crash site by Chia Diko Detimbir who led a rescue operation that saved the survivors.

Immediately the news of the crash got to the military headquarters, a search and rescue team made up of a military helicopter, and another from the police were dispatched to the scene of the crash.

When good deeds actually counted for something. If it were today, guy would have called his brothers to finish the butchering of any that might have mistakenly survived, knowing that today's military is highly compromised and sectionalised.

I want to emphatically state that Nigeria govt fail on their promise to reward this young man so don't give credits to the govt, Obasanjo promised to put him in NDA but when the time came he was being pushed around he later found luck from a major general from his state that later assisted him. congrats young man never trust the govt
