Its no longer news that Nigeria is facing dire security challenges.

Innocent citizens are killed unjustifiably daily, armed robbery and kidnapping is also rampant across Nigeria.

However the Nigerian Police responsible for safeguarding lives and property is controlled by the Federal Government through the President and so state governors have no real control over them.

It is contended that the establishment of State police would lower crime rate hence natives would know how best to tackle their security problems moreover control is too far removed from the locals.

However, others think a state police would become a private army for political stalwarts to unleash havoc and carry out their personal vendetta.

What do you think? Should state police be established? Why or why not?
