WHY YOUNG PEOPLE DO NOT READ

.To we young people, reading is hard work and most of us are too impatient to work hard. We want everything instant and fast forgetting that what comes fast doesn't last.

Reading is fast becoming a long lost trait especially among us. We thought the internet will make reading more interesting and accessible but guess what, we thought wrong. Majority of us today are more entertainment, money and sex inclined. The only time many of us still read is when we have exams to write. The new order now is RCPF model (Read, Cram, Pass, Forget). I have even heard some say that if reading will save their lives, they don't mind dieing.
.
.
.
Now why most young people don't read isn't a mystery. They just don't see the benefit to them. They feel it's a waste of time and mediocrity is now generally acceptable as the norm especially in Nigeria. I hope we know that the average Nigerian sometimes can not even read a post online and comprehend to comment appropriately, they just like and pass. They prefer to just get key points than read the full story. Imagine if history was documented as key points? What will we have to remember about history. Reading isn't just a NICE to do, it is a MUST do if ever you must UPGRADE.
.

.
Reading is fast becoming a bad habit that must be replaced with social media distractions. We now have a generation of smart phones yet dumb people. We are touching screens yet losing touch. People are losing interest in reading yet gaining interest in porn, bet, sex, jokes, drugs, etc. How can young people be losing *values* and expect to be *valuable.* Reading isn't everything but it is the beginning of everything.

.
Three reasons you must start reading as a young person
.
.
1) to stay informed and updated
.
.
2) to expand your mind and improve your critical thinking, analysis and judgement
.
.
3) to make you smarter than your smart phone
.
.
.
The one who can read but does not read is is not any better than the one can't read. If you can read and do read, you will always find a way to meet your need.
.
.
.
There is so much we can read as a young person, don't waste all your time on social media because time is of the essence.
.
.
.
Reading improves your thinking just as exercise improves your body. As you think so you are.

On the upgrade side of life, i encourage you to learn, unlearn and relearn through reading and practice.

What you know you know, what you don't know you don't know. When you don't read life will make you bleed.
My two cents tho

On the contrary a lot of people read nowadays. Social media has made reading a fun activity. More people read in this day and time than any other in history.
When I state the fact, people follow up with '...but are they reading the right thing?'. Who died and made one judge of what the right thing is? If everybody read the same thing life will become dull. People are reading and that's all which matters.
