MANY MAY NOT KNOW THAT ROME AND ITALY USED TO BE DIFFERENT NATIONS. ON 9TH OCTOBER, 1870, ROME WAS FORCEFULLY INCORPORATED INTO ITALY. IT BECAME THE CAPITAL OF ITALY IN 1871. PRIOR TO THE CONQUEST OF ROME, TURIN WAS CAPITAL OF ITALY UNTIL 1865 WHEN THE CAPITAL SHIFTED TO FLORENCE, THEN FROM FLORENCE TO ROME.
