Have you ever seen some photos people podt on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or wallpapers and screensavers and wondered If these places exist and probably where those unknown places were? There are a number of places around the world that are off the radar as we are all busy sight-seeing the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Westminister Abbey in London, Taj Mahal, and the Vatican in Rome.

The best way to discover unknown places is through locals and exploring it on your own. Therefore you first have to know they are existing. So here’s a little helping hand in getting to know some of them!

Zhangye Danxia Landform, China


Forming for over 6 million years, this Danxia geological structure was formed by the erosion of red sandstone. Its special geological structure, combined with long-term weathering, freeze-thaw peeling, and wind and water erosion gave rise to its appearance today.

Pamukkale Thermal Pools, Turkey


These thermal pools have been used as a day spa since the 2nd century BC. They came about after a shifting of a fault in the valley of the Menderes river. As the fault shifted, hot springs with very high mineral content (giving it that white colour) arose at this location.

Antelope Canyon, Arizona, USA




This canyon is probably the most beautiful you will ever see. The openings within the roof of the canyon cause beams of light to radiate into the canyon, the sight is breathtaking.

Lake Hilier, Australia




Western Australia is home to a number of pink lakes. No-one fully knows why the lake is pink. Scientists speculate that the colour comes from a dye created by bacteria that lives in the salt crusts.

Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellowstone National Park, USA


The vivid colours in this hot spring are also a result of pigmented bacteria. The bacteria produce colours ranging from green to red.

Huacachina, Peruvian Desert


Huacachina is a village in the Ica Region of Peru. It is a picturesque desert oasis built around a natural lake and surrounded by enormous sand dunes. It may look and feel like a remote Saharan outpost, but in reality it is only an hours drive from the Pacific coast.

Ristorante Grotta Palazzese in Italy


This stunning restaurant is built inside a cave on the Italian coast, allowing for one of the worlds most unique dining experiences. Being carved from the cliffs face, the restaurant is over 20 meters above sea level, allowing diners marvel at the beautiful view as waves lap the shores beneath them.
