its more of a yoruba culture, actually its the Kings oba's in those days that gives cowries to their praise singers, jesters and dancers before you knew it every rich men in the society want to act like the Kings, Oba's and the practices spread quickly in the society, the praise singers use to earn more in those day, because they will recite what yorubas calls Oríkì, don't know the name in English anyway, but its more of a prose, praise poetry or eulogy, from there it was coins and now notes, it pretty common among Indians too tho.

but it doesn't make sense especially not in this age and time. We really need stop doing that thing.
Imagine people complain of bad notes and these same people endorse the spraying of notes, some even go as far as squeezing these notes in their pockets and complain when they get bad notes as change.

The fact that the obas did or do it doesn't make it right or sensible, a dummy notes will be better rather than real ones. Takes a lot to print those you know.
