LEADERSHIP WITHOUT GOVERNANCE BY Prof.Siyan Peter at the Institute of Leadership and Governance USA ( Nigeria Chapter).

Nigeria leaders since political independence have nosedived woefully in governance using the following indicators or indices: Diversification of the economy, Corruption perception index (CPI). Works internal security and policy index, Terrorism Index, Rule of Law Index, Infant and Maternal Mortality Rate index, Human capital development index, Unemployment index, Poverty index, Hunger.

DIVERSIFICATION OF THE ECONOMY: All our leaders do is to drill our black gold, sell it out as crude and come to share the proceeds on monthly basis.

GLOBAL COMPETITIVENESS INDEX: Imagine 13 Boeing 747 cargo planes come into Nigeria daily. Cargoes are offloaded but fly back empty stabilizing their cargoes with sandbags. Similarly, most of the ships that berth on Nigeria soil returns empty.

RULE OF LAW INDEX: In its latest survey of 113 countries of the world conducted between 2017 and 2018, the World Justice Project, WJP ranked Nigeria 97th. Nigeria is rated 13th out of 18 Countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

TERRORISM INDEX: Terrorism Index measures the direct and indirect impact of terrorism, including its effects on lives lost, injuries, property damage, and psychological aftereffects. Terrorism Index in Nigeria was a record low of 3.86 in 2002, 9.31 in 2015 decreased to 9.01 in 2016.
Nigeria was ranked the 16th least peaceful country in the world, according to the 2018 edition of Global Peace Index, GPI. Nigeria globally was ranked 148 out of the total 163 countries surveyed.

Hunger index: In early 2017, the United Nations declared that more than 20 million people were at risk of famine in four countries: Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, and Yemen.
These crises are largely “manmade,” the result of violent conflict and internal strife that are preventing people from accessing food and clean water and keeping aid organizations from reaching people in need. In northeast Nigeria, 4.5 million people are experiencing or are at risk of famine while the rest of the country is relatively food secure.
Unemployment Rate in Nigeria increased to 18.80 percent in the third quarter of 2017 from 16.20 percent in the second quarter of 2017. Unemployment Rate in Nigeria averaged 10.63 percent from 2006 until 2017, reaching an all-time high of 19.70 percent in the fourth quarter of 2009 and a record low of 5.10 percent in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Poverty Index: Recently, Nigeria has taken over as the nation with the highest number of extremely poor people, a report by Brookings Institution has shown. Before now, India used to hold the position with a population of 1.324 billion people as against Nigeria’s 200 million.
Human capital development index: According to the FDC, despite Nigeria's consistent population growth at about 2.5 percent presently, the economy was yet to unlock the full potential embedded in such a great asset. Human capital remains a major concern in Nigeria and other developing nations.
