Nigeria will overtake India in 2021 as the country with the most under-five deaths in the world. this is according to the latest bi-annual economic report of the World Bank’s Bretton Woods Institution..

The report predicts that just like Nigeria overtook India as the world's poverty capital in 2019, the country will overtake India as the nation with the highest number of infant mortality under the age of five by 2021.

One reason for this estimate is the fact that the highest number of children who die from malaria in the world can be found in Nigeria.

Another reason is that Nigeria recorded 714,000 under-five deaths in 2017, according to the current World Bank figures, while India recorded 989,000 deaths in the same year.

It continued: “Poverty remains high in Nigeria and access to basic social services is not universal.

The report also stated that Nigeria has the highest number of out-of-primary school-aged children in the world, nine million children to be exact. 90 per cent of these children are said to come from Northern Nigeria.

When they say Nigeria, we shouldnt forget that they're not only referring to the south, but the entire country. The best way to describe a man with a big head is through his head. I still wonder despite the dominance of the north in the political space of Nigeria, despite their dominance in the civil service and appoinents, their region remains the most impoverished in Nigeria. Early this year, we bagged an award for the poorest country on earth, courtesy the north . The largest concentration of the extremely poor people in Nigeria is in the north. When it comes to annual budget, the north always has the lion's share. It's high time their leaders started viable programmes that would turn around the economy of their region. Vocational programmes, orientation programmes capable of improving the lives of their people are very key. There are many homes in the South catered for, by the wives. Up north, wives are only for baby production. This mentality needs to change. There are women of great potentials whose destiny have been caged in various houses all in the name of culture and religion. Saudi women now drive taxis...the centre of a religious faith for that matter. Women in UAE, the most successful Islamic state drive taxi to feed their family. why is the north an exception? They need to also control their population. There's a serious population spill-over in the country right now. Those youths from the north are now migrating down south en mass where they make a living and fend for their family up north. Something needs to be done by northern leaders. They should establish good programmes that would liberate their people from poverty. Unfortunately, the reverse is the case .

Their leaders aren't concerned about their people and even the northerners are not concerned about their plight... The perfect setting.
