Topic: MAXIMIZING PROFIT IN SNAIL FARMING, Ese Temisan Ikponmwonba CEO, SHELL CROP FARMS.

I created this platform because of those of us who intend to go into Snail farming. It is actually not as stressful as other livestock farming and it is very profitable.

The question from almost 99% from us all is how much will I make from it?!
Even thou I think money should not be the bottom line because it limits you eventually but you know that is just my thinking.

I am sure we all have an idea of what profitability is! The basic meaning at least for most of us to understand is the extra money left after all cost have been deducted from income or sales.....Cost is you expenses ie everything the business cost you....Income is monies you get from the sales of your product.

In Snail farming we have both fixed and variable cost. Our fixed cost is basically the Cost of structure or building/housing which we will depreciate over time. Others are variable or direct cost. They are salaries for workmen, feeding, cost of initial stock and farm accessories.

So I shall use a pen for this case study discussions so we can understand it....
What a pen looks like. So for a pen startup we will have a stock of pols numbered 120.
120 snails in one pen. Our cost for 120 pols is 30,000. Labour cost for 120 snails is 1,200 @ a rate of 15k to 1500 pieces of snails
Monthly. Feeding will cost 600 monthly @ a rate of 7k5 to 1500 pieces of snails
This pen will roughly cost 30k which we will spread across say 5years. Which will give us 500 naira monthly. Farm accessories might as well be say 5k which I fink is on the high side though, but for this sake we will use #5,000 and this cost is one off.

So our total cost for the first month of farming will be labour which is #1,200 plus feeding #600naira plus accessories #5,000 plus depreciation of the pen cost #500 naira and the cost of the snails #30,000
So we have a total cost of #37,300 for the first month. These pols are usually about 4-6months old.... but for this class we will use the lower boundary which is 4months....
So at month 4 our total cost is #37,300.

A laborer can care for 1500 pieces of snails alone......
Caring for 120 snails will cost #1,200 monthly
But most times it’s even no cost because it’s the owner who does the caring. This is a breakdown of how much it will cost for you to care for 120 snails monthly when calculating your profitability.

We are using a pen as a case study... cost of constructing one is #3,000 which you will depreciate over time. Let us consider a mortality rate of 0.16 which will leave us at 100 snails in the pen. But this happens if proper care and attention is not given to the snails once you can get very healthy snails to start with them you should have a smooth sail...
Standard for Accounting purpose...
We use it for projections...

So for the first month on the farm our cost is #37,300. Snails are 4months old also pls note.

I need to break it down so everyone can be carried along sorry.... i feel fulfilled that way....
Month 2 on the farm, snails 5 months old:
Feeding 600+ labour 1,200 +Rent 500 =2300
Month 3 on the farm, Snails 6months old:
Feeding 600+ labour 1,200 + Rent 500 =2300
Month 4 on the farm, Snails are 7 months old:
Feeding 700 + labour 1,200 + Rent 500 = 2,400

At this month the snails have started laying we will use a standard of 4 per snails keeping hatchability in mind and a mortality rate of 0.16 so we have 100 snails left. This will give us 400 hatchlings. Month 5 on the farm, snails are 8 months old: Feeding 1,000 + labour 1,200 + Rent 500 = 2,700.

Month 6 on the farm, snails are 9 months old:

Feeding 1,000 + labour 1,200 + Rent 500 = 2,700

Month 7 on the farm, snails are 10 months old:
Feeding 1,200+ labour 1,200 + Rent 500= 2,900

At this month we use a standard of 5 hatchlings per snail giving is a total of 500 hatchlings

Month 8 on the farm snails are 11 months old :
Feeding 1,500 + labour 1,200 + Rent 500= 3,200

Month 9 on the farm snails are 12 months old:
Feeding 1,500 + labour 1,200 + Rent 500= 3,200

At this stage you can decide to start selling off your initial stock, your hatchlings at month 4 on the farm because they will be about 7-8 months old then and your hatchlings at month 7 also ....

Our total sales will be the 100 initial stock which we can sell for as high as #17,000 for 20 pieces or as low as #15,000 for 20 pieces but for this purpose we will use the lower boundary which is #15,000
100 pieces @ #15,000 for 20 = #75,000
[The hatchlings from month4 selling at #9,000 for 20 pieces we have 180,000
The hatchling at month 7: at #200 naira per piece will give 100,000
So our total sales for 100 pieces of snails will be #255,000. Less our total cost of #59,000. Gives us 196,000, which is over 300% profit....
I hope we have been able to grasp it all.

Yes but that’s not part of his class but your profitability can sky rocket with the by products also.... all parts of the snails is monetized from shells to intestines to extract.

The beauty about snail farming is you can sell at any month. I have not seen one farmer that can meet demand and demand is high. You can also be strategic and do much more; a lot to be archived. You are welcome to visit Shell Crop Farm (Terms and conditions apply)

For those who will like to have a basic knowledge we have an E-BOOk, which I am priviledged to Author. It is self explanatory on how to care for your snails, starting up also. The E-Book sells for #3,000. If you are interested in the book, please make payment to:

Account Name: Shellcrops Farms
Account Number: 0258078955

Further questions will be answered at my earliest convenience. People are already paying for the E-Book and for slots in the Snail Farming, so as to maximize profit. We do hope you will tap into this goldmine also. Send me a personal message when you pay: 07058790123
