American Cars Vs Japanese Cars: Which Ones Are Safer And Why? by Godspower35(m): 2:27am On Jan 26, 2019
Everyone has their own ideas about which country produces the best vehicles. The most common belief is that Japanese cars are better than American cars. But here's irony: the Japanese automotive industry has grown to an extraordinary height due to one American engineer, statistician and Professor William Edwards Deming. His methods helped Japanese companies create a new standard of quality control that not only helped their economy recover, but also their vehicles very competitive on the world market.

So if Americans need to blame someone for having such a tough competitor then they should be Demings. But seriously, the Japanese automotive industry has made a long way since Komanosuke Uchiyama produced Takuri, the first Japanese
gasoline car in 1907.

Now is the question: are Japanese cars really better than American cars these days? We will compare each other:

American cars vs. Japanese cars: why are Japanese cars more reliable?
Japanese cars have always been more popular in Asian and African countries. They are also in demand in the European and American markets. The fact that Americans prefer their own brands, such as General Motors, Ford, Chevrolet and others, does not increase their reliability coefficient.

Are American cars reliable? They are in general. Are they better than their Japanese colleagues? This is a matter of dispute.

In the argument about which one is more reliable between American and Japanese cars, the following facts will help you:

Profit margin
Adding the bottom line is one of the main goals of all companies. The fact is that the debate has nothing to do with Japan against America, but to a greater extent with the profits of automakers. Japanese car makers such as Toyota and Honda are very profitable, and high profits help them emphasize quality and produce world-class cars.

Administration
The management approach is also of great importance for quality. The management of Honda and Toyota values quality and efficiency above all. They do not make big changes in every redesign, because they are comfortable with gradual improvements in sales. A tried and true design approach is something they rely on more than trying to make radical changes.

On the other hand, US automakers are focused on profits. New engineering approaches and dramatic improvements are getting emphasis instead of improving quality. This may be useful for innovation of something new, but it is bad for business. They must start from scratch if the new model fails.

Managerial stability
Japanese automakers work with stable management. The same work force works years after years. Such stability means that engineers can focus on improving existing systems, rather than creating a new design every 5 or 6 years.
Frequent driving changes do not allow US cars to focus on stability. After someone turns around, they will want to make big changes in every area, such as product planning, redesign, resource sharing, and more. As a result, engineers also do not have the chance to upgrade what they have already built. Management expects to create something magical and force them to sacrifice quality improvements.

It is obvious that Japanese cars are winning a competition of reliability between American cars and Japanese cars. People can claim that Toyota and Honda can emphasize quality and reliability because they are profitable. However, the truth is that Japanese companies are profitable for adopting a steady approach, not vice versa.

The reality of it is how long are you expect to own your new car before depreciation is negligible.

Americans, due to their economy belives 5 yrs 60000 miles. At that point it is good for the whole business chain that you buy a new car and your extra budgetary cost of owning a car will reamin zero.

Some parts tend to fail at this point that cost a relatively high amount of money when compared to the value of the car but if you are willing to replace those components, American cars will last as long as their Japanese counterparts.

Having failures in American cars guarantees that dealers and part manufacturers have business and they keep improving on the industry, and that is why the Japanese are never first to apply a new piece of technology and only adopt it when all the links have been worked out.

Ford has some form of autonomous modes in their cars but Toyota and Honda won't do it till it's all works
