Almost half a billion dollars was dropped the first time they bought a share in the company. Only God knows how much they must have dropped for full acquisition.

You need to be careful with these figures. If in 2016, 40% of Chi was bought for $500M. It means the entire 100% of the company in 2016 is valued at $1.25B. Which means by now, Chi might be getting close to $2B. WhatsApp was bought for $4B.

How many companies in the world are valued at 1.25B? Even Liverpool is valued at 1B pounds. Throwing big figures around without backing it up with facts is not good enough.

If the company was so valuable, why are they selling?

Same cocacola acquired a coffee company in the UK last year for about $5B and they're still doing well.
Disappointing. The chivita brand is big and even has the potential further growth. It would have been wise to still have some control maybe 20%.

Blomberg will be of great help to you.

How many companies are valued at 1.25? Cocacola itself is valued at almost $200B . thousands upon thousands of companies worldwide are worth billions of pounds . Please do your research.

If the company was so valuable, why are they selling?
The fact that a company was sold/acquired doesn't mean it wasn't valuable in the first place.
Same cocacola bought Costa coffee last year at $5B. Ask why snickers and twix were.acquired by mars inc, or why Pepsi acquired doritos, Lipton and mountain dew or why Unilever acquired B&J etc

It's actually the other way round. They're nipping a major threat in the bud.

You can say that for sure. Not the idea that they'll want Chi products off the market like the other guy suggested.

I doubt you understand the concept of acquisitions such as these. Give you an example that comes to mind... Facebook's acquisition of Whatsapp. Can you say same for this too ?

And can you also explain what happened to Limca after coca-cola bought it? They are by no doubt the largest and oldest beverage company in the world, but acquisitions like this begs more question.

As a matter of fact, I don’t like this news one but. I’m a Nigerian and I support everything good about Nigeria. Chi was our pride in their field.
Chi was as good as a foreign company..
It was owned by foreigners, run by foreigners..So don't know the pride u are talking about..

No be to buy be head. Hope they will be able to maintain the quality of their products. Cocacola is not a brand known for quality sustainability. Just check out how horrible cocacola and its sister products have become. Hope Chi products won't go the same way.

If you go in with that mindset, you'll never achieve anything.

Really? Have you heard of serial entrepreneurs who build up businesses just to sell and move on to re-create.

It will be stupid of them to do that..
They buying cos they have seen d potential of Chi's product in d west African Market..
Plus why was WhatsApp sold...
It was cos owners know how much profit they were gonna make..
Same way chi is selling because they are making a huge profits....
They can always start another company with a new brand name n start a new range of products since they already have the formulars for each product..
Its purely business.... And whether quality remains the same or changes.. That one na coca cola problem.. Na dem go lose o..
When Chelsea was sold to ambrahamovic, did business run down.. Same way Leicester and Liverpool were sold to new owners..
Takeover always favours d seller except in cases they been bailed outta debts

Just like what they did to Limca. Killed all their factories, goldspot, parle soda brands and left only Limca brand.
