Nigeria's Under-13 team beat Sporting CP 2-0 to win the 2010 International Youth Championship organised by the English Premier League.

A total of 16 teams took part in the tournament with Nigeria placed in Group B along with Liverpool FC, Fulham FC and Birmingham FC.

The Nigerians finished top of the group after beating Liverpool 4-0, Fulham 6-0 and Birmingham 4-1 to qualify for a semi-final meeting with the Chelsea team.

They won that game 3-0 before emerging triumphant in the Final.

The national Under 13 team is a project started by former NFF President Sani Lulu two years ago, with young footballers from Junior Secondary Schools nationwide.

The first set of graduates from the project, who are now Under-15s, are expected to form the nucleus of the Under -17 team in two years time.
