the main thing to do is first of all, make sure u got the talent for music, then do the unusual, dont follow the norm, it doesnt always work, i ll give an example, the all girl band DESPERATE CHICKS came out with an unusual form of music(i,e using CONCENTRATED IGBO LYRICS on a contemporary pop beat) and what's the result? they hit the limelite immediately, they came out with a an all Igbo pop single OKPOMEKWE, and then the dialect of the Igbo they used was the type people call bush Igbo if u speak it and they will laugh at u, but they braced all odds and released the single with their controversial band name DESPERATE CHICKS, and before u know it the song was topping most charts in radio stations in the EAST and peolple started falling over themselves to buy their album, both young and old alike, they became the highest selling artiste in EAST in 2008, same thing with NIGGA RAW, But one thing they have going for them is their immense talent and wonderful voices, so u must have the talent first, then do the unusual, |

The topic is a little bit equivocal, "The Norm" in the context of Nigerian music interprets as doing regular party tracks or creating your own genre, but, It is very imperative that you know your strength and capitalise on it if you want to break into the Music Market. There is a difference between a musician and an Artist. We have few artists in Nigeria today; the likes of Tuface, 9ice, Asa, e.t.c These people are very creative and their works show sensitivity, The principal problem with the 'unusual' is that , few people appreciate good music especially in Nigeria hence upcoming artist opt for 'the norm', Asa, 9ice and few artists have been able to break into the limelight doing the usual, My advice will be do what you are good at, but being distinct will surely give you edge over others |
