AutoReportNG:
Barring any last minute change, the evacuation of cargoes by rail from Apapa seaport in Lagos to the Kaduna Inland Container Dryport will commence in April, 16 months after it was commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to LEADERSHIP newspapers, the executive secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Mr Hassan Bello said the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has designated 24 flatbed wagons for evacuation and transportation of cargoes from the dryport. Bello stated that the rail evacuation of cargoes is another stage for the actualisation of the Kaduna dryport. He also explained that the flatbed wagons are already on the ground and would be deployed in April.

He said: ‘‘We just held a meeting now with NRC and they have so far been involved in the dryport that we now have about 24 flatbed wagons designated for Kaduna dryport. The wagons are on the ground now and by April, movement of cargoes will begin from the seaports to Kaduna and that will be another stage for the actualisation of the Kaduna dryport.’’

The Shippers’ Council boss, however, frowned at reports that Togo and Ghana are taking over as the hub in West and Central Africa sub-region. He disclosed that Nigerian ports have become efficient and effective, with 80 percent of cargoes coming to West and Central Africa from around the world destined for Nigeria seaports.

“For cargoes coming into West and Central Africa sub-region, Nigeria has 80 percent of the cargoes while other countries distribute 20 percent among themselves. So, how can they be a hub when Nigeria ports are becoming efficient by the day? We are attracting cargoes from other ports and the moment we get our infrastructure and our connectivity right, importers will patronise the eastern ports.

“The government is tackling insecurity, once that is done, then we will see the real hub. We have the Lekki deep seaport with its huge capacity and when the Lekki deep seaport comes on board, we will get bigger ships and send the smaller ones to other countries”, he said.

Bello, who also spoke on the registration policy initiated by the Council, noted that it is a step towards automating the port and cutting human interface that breeds corruption. According to him, there are lots of benefits inherent in the policy which includes easy payment at the ports.

Brilliant... grin

The roads in Nigeria will have some breathing space.
More cargo wagons have to be made or imported
in the meantime.

#Nigeria... moving forward!

Nigeria gets money from South South not South East.
^^^^^

Just for MORE clarity... Nigeria gets crude oil EXPORT money from
the list below:

1. Nigeria gets crude oil EXPORT money from the South of South States.
[The cardinal points do not have anything called South-South].

2. South-Western States of Ondo and Lagos. [Ondo state generates 3
times more crude oil especially offshore than what Imo and Abia produce
based on official annual production data].

3. Then the South-Eastern States of Imo and Abia.

4. Nigeria also generates income from VAT and other taxes from
Lagos State which accounts for over 50 percent of VAT and from
other parts of Nigeria.

More sources of income for Nigeria exist especially from the global
financial markets investments.

Hope this helps.

Abia oil fields are not profitable enough to attract serious investors.

[s]The east really needs this development more than the north but oga there is a deliberate effort to frustrate the igbos that's the plan of the APC govt. ..have u seen any concrete project going on in the East? The fact is APC govt seems to have an agenda to divide the country[/s].

How can one state serve the whole country in terms of shipping ports when we have warri and onitsha which are supposed to be fully functional...that's why lagos state brag about high IGR I don't feel suprised...even at that they can't maintain the port go to apapa u will be left with unanswered questions as to what are they using the funds generated from the port for...
^^^^^

Just a quick correction @netflicks

Slightly over 70 percent of all the cargo coming into Nigeria is meant for the South-West States of
Lagos and Ogun because of the massive industries there... INFACT Ogun State has the highest
number of industries in Nigeria. So the Lagos and Ogun axis will continue to receive goods from
the Seaports for a long time to come. The remaining 30 percent of goods head for the Northern
States and the other parts of Nigeria. This information is from official Nigerian Maritime sources. grin

Lagos axis is also closer to the Atlantic Ocean and is the closest gateway to Europe, America,
Canada, and West Africa by sea from the manufacturing centres in the West and North of
Nigeria.

Most of the cargoes coming into Nigeria are meant for the the manufacturing industries that
bring their raw materials in large containers. Again the LAKAJI route [or LAGOS, KANO, JIBIYA]
are the busiest cargo or business routes in Nigeria.

Warri port, Calabar and Onitsha are River Ports with shallow water levels.
They are NOT Seaports that have deeper water levels that can take in
BIG ocean - going cargo ships and are considered not profitable
destinations for international shipping companies. These River Ports
do NOT have what you call Destination of Cargo ... meaning that there
are not enough industries in those areas that will make it profitable
for the shipping companies to bring in containers and take away
containers with goods in them!

So the Lagos to Calabar rail line construction will COMMENCE later
this year and the PH to Maiduguri rail line which will serve the
South Eastern States will all be completed before the end of the
next 4 years!

Yes correct... but the Ndoki or Ukwa East LGA part of Abia which produces
the small crude oil and gas also extends into Rivers State. Infact, the larger
part of Ndokiland is in Rivers State and they are some of the biggest
producers of crude oil and gas income for Rivers State. It is from the oil and gas
fields of the Ndoki people that gas is being tapped for the proposed
Geo Metrics Power Plant in Abia which will soon be inaugurated.

There was a time in 2009, I read online that some Ndokis of Ukwa East
LGA in Abia wanted a merger with their kith and kin in Rivers State
because Abia governments allegedly where not taking good
care of them ... and they lacked infrastructure as oil producing
communities. grin

All the best.
