All building materials this Yamiri are importing are sub-standard materials....

Lagos State govt should start closing building materials stores... they should close up there store and purse them back to their various stations..

SON is an irresponsible organization..a toothless bulldog... federal government work is not about collecting salary. If they are tire of working , Lagos State should create a similar body that will be performing the same fxn at the state level....
Thank God, you don't hold any meaningful position. U would have been a bigger political mistake than the remote controlled object in Aso rock

WHY CAN'T OUR SENATE BUILDING JUST COLLAPSE LIKE THIS WHILE ALL THE SENATORS ARE PRESENT.....WHY MUST THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN TO INNOCENT PEOPLE.....

Please be very cautious and sensible in this Nigeria. Live like a soldier, prepared for anything. Go and learn skills. Ridiculous skills.
We have no building standards organisation.
You, learn how to build.
This is the meaning of corruption: the organisations and bodies setup and meant to check for standards and safety, has been bribed by the people themselves.

In all these unfortunate manmade events, our Oba of Lagos has been silent. We need to hear him speak to the bereaved, the injured and the homeless subjects in his domain under the realities of these incessant collapses.

It is not related to d lagoon of course. Na only Lagoon language he understands. He is supposed to be d first to speak up on these issues.

The rate of building collapse is on the rise. This is what happens when you have engineers and construction companies try to circumvent quality by reducing price. Quality isn't cheap you know.
Speedy recovery to the injured.

Tah! Keep quiet.

Do you know how old those buildings are.

Those buildings have been there probably before you were born or depending on your age, before your parents were born.

Lagos Island is full of aging buildings that need to be pulled down

This is the best time for Lagos government to have a new plan for Lagos Island.

Frankly, most of Lagos Island should be destroyed and rebuilt....
But that is unlikely to ever happen because it is an APC stronghold.

There are building standards, and even building development and control processes...
But landlords rarely observe them, bribe state officials or mobilize Ageberos to battle beat-up building control officials.

My experience in this Nigeria, is that my parents were civil servants of the Government who worked in the Ministry of Education from 1975 to 1999. All the houses we lived in were Federal Government houses - Federal Govt College XYZ staff houses.
Those were built by the Ministry of Works - the child of Public Works Department (PWD). These were controlled and handed down by colonial masters. So the job was always well done. Our last Govt house was one of those old Ikoyi houses with a ceiling fan that had been running since 1950 till 2010 (60years) - We acquired the house and land from govt and sold off to someone else and enjoy the change.
Since we left that house, I married and moved on my own, I have never met houses as good, with good furniture, kitchen, wood, windows and doors.
Everybody in Lekki is a builder. Everybody is a carpenter: Everybody can make furniture. But no house here is good. Every one has problem. Peeling cement, bend-bend door.
You rent O. Na yeye house.
You build O. Na yeye building.

Instead of doing this, they are spending Gazzillion Naira, sandfilling ocean in Bar Beach and building Eko Atlantic city for foreigners to come and live.
With our corruption filled minds, Building highrise buildings by the sea side? The sea and the breeze carry SALT. This will corrode all the FAKE iron rods. The buildings will just collapse before they even finish.
Rust-Rust full everything.
