Only few people are concerned about the correct driving seat position. They prefer seating randomly suffer a lot of health issues as a result.
The UK government’s Office for National Statistics says that over 15 million people commute to work by car or van, and face a daily risk to their back, neck, shoulders and legs.

Dr Steve Iley, Jaguar Land Rover’ Chief Medical Officer, says "new vehicle technology is part of the solution, But only if it is used properly. Our step by step guide will help you to adjust your seat and posture to find the correct driving position". Hence, he gave this guide.

A perfect seat position can help you to drive well and maintain a good health condition as well.
Jaguar’s step by step guide to help you find the best driving position is as follows:

1.Empty your pockets (of phones, keys, pen and so on) because bulky items affect sitting position.

2. Get the Right Angles: Push your bottom as close to the back of the seat as possible. (See illustration)

3. Make sure all your back is touching the seat.

4. Seat: Adjust the back of the seat so that your spine and pelvis are straight.

6. Thighs: Your thighs should be at rest on the seat and you shouldn’t be able to feel any pressure points.

7. Pedals: Change the distance from pedals so that your knee is slightly bent when the pedals fully down.

8. Elbows: Your elbows should be slightly bent while reaching for the steering wheel as shown below.

9. Shoulders: Your shoulders should be in contact with the seat (note the green line on illustration below), even when turning the steering wheel.

10. Headrest: Adjust the headrest so that it is the same height as the top of your head.

Please remember that you have to do these while the car is stationary. Also adjust your mirrors, and put on your seat belt.

So, I have not been sitting right when driving?

In Nigeria, we have something different from the above stated position.

We have:
1. Sitting position when toasting a babe walking on the road.You know, no seat belt, on hand on the wheel and you start speaking phonetics
2. A position to show off to people that you bought a car. You know, no seat belt, leaning forward, one hand on the steering.
3. Sitting position when you sight VIO/Road Safety/ Police/Soldiers. Especially, on sighting soldiers is when most drivers sit well, two hands on the wheel, reduce the volume of car stereo etc; D
4. Sitting position when you just spent a lot to repair/service your car. Pamper it for a few days.
5. Sitting position when your friend is driving your.car while you are in it. Men, you will forget seat belt and turn to second driver.
