Nigeria’s struggle with tax compliance may be far from over, considering the poor collection approach the federal government employs. Many Nigerians are still uncertain about paying tax because of corruption in the system, but the stringency of making payments could scare many more away.

FIRS revealed that there are still about 45,000 tax defaulters in the country, each of which had over ₦100 million as turnover in their accounts. It also shows that the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) launched by the federal government to encourage tax compliance, has failed to do its best.

But the problem is not only about companies defaulting, but also a poor collection approach that leaves technology at the backseat.
