The berger car depot market, for clarity, is located along mile 2/Apapa expressway Lagos, siting on four link roads to berger car depot bridge. This market provides jobs to over two thousand Nigerians who are engaged in different business activities which include car dealership/Agency, registration of vehicles, vehicle tracking services, spare parts, food vendors etc. Like any other market or business environment, revenues are generated from participating organisations or players. The rate or percentage of levies charged is always negotiable. The legality or otherwise of such levies should also come to question.

There is an ugly trend that presently prevails in this market where an individual or a couple of persons unilaterally and arbitrarily impose levies to other established organisations and unions without seeking their consent and inputs in matters that concern them. The President-General and his collaborators have unleashed a reign of terror and oppression of defenceless and peaceful members of the market with unbearable levies using his trained thugs and miscreants to harass and intimidate other operators in the market. In their bid to extort monies, they go as far as forcefully seizing cell phones and female bags and other personal effects in a gangster manner.

The worst affected in this reign of terror and impunity are members of vehicle tracking operators of Nigeria whose offices have been locked for over three months for refusal to comply with the illegal fee collection.

Therefore, we call on the President and Commander-in-Chief of armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, Acting Inspector General of Police, Director DSS, Ministers of environment and works, Federal Inland Revenue Service and Civil society organisations to immediately investigate this matter with a view to preventing breakdown of law and order
For those who may want to give this ethnic colouration, over 85 percent of market operators are lbos, the leadership of the market is made up of lbos and those who suffer this hostile treatment are same lbos.
