Many people, including some teachers think Diction and Phonics mean the same thing. Nowadays you hear or see Phonics/Diction. They think a Phonics teacher is automatically a Diction teacher and vice-versa

This is not true. Diction is quite different from Phonics and Phonics is not Phonetics either. A Diction teacher is not necessarily a Phonics teacher. Many Diction teachers cannot teach Phonics Neither can Phonics teachers teach Diction except the individual has been trained for the two subjects.

What is Diction? "Diction is the style of speaking or writing dependent upon choice of words." It includes "the accent, inflection, intonation and speech sound quality of an individual usually judged in terms of prevailing standards of acceptability."

Phonis is simply spelling and reading through sound. It is the easiest way to teach preschoolers spelling and reading. Phonics is only useful to nursery classes where they are still learning to read.

It is one thing to teach Phonics, it is yet another thing to teach it right. Some Phonics teachers only teach the sounds of the 26 letters of the alphabet (a-z). This can only help a child read CVC words (consonant+vowel+consonant) and nothing more. How will the child read words that contain sounds which are not accounted for by teaching the sounds of the 26 letters?

There are over 40 letter sounds in English. Effective Phonics lesson must cover all the 40+ letter sounds for the learner to read effectively and as early as possible. The aim of Phonics is to help children read as early as possible, hence, the need to learn Jolly Phonics.
As a school owner, if you are paying your Phonics teacher to teach the 26 letters of the alphabet, please stop wasting your money, your regularly teachers can do that. As a phonics teacher if what you teach is the 26 letters of the alphabet, please upgrade yourself.
