Just recently at the 2019 International Auto Show in New York, Mercedes-Benz unveiled its 2nd generation GLS SUV. This new 3-row GLS SUV is designed to seriously compete with the new BMW X7 and it is sure, not wider or longer than the car it actually replaces. It is now the largest Mercedes SUV that has been made so far.





This 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV comes in 2 versions. First is the entry-level GLS 450 model which features a 3.0L turbocharged inline-6 engine that produces 362hp while the more powerful and second version GLS 580 model produces 483 horsepower and gets a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 engine with an EQ Boost hybrid vehicle technology.

Both of these GLS models equally comes with the same 9-speed automatic transmission together with 4Matic All-wheel-drive system which gives them an added ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.9 and 5.2 secs respectively. The two models both have a top speed that is electronically limited to 130miles/Hr.



On the inside of this seven-passenger luxurious SUV are features like the new Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system packed with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as well as a 12.3-inch central touchscreen with navigation system. Some other standard features in the interior include Android Auto connectivity and Apple CarPlay, nine different USB ports, a 64-colour ambient lighting, inductive wireless charging, and a Burmester surround sound system.



When closely observing this new GLS, it can be seen to visually share a lot in common with the other Mercedes-Benz GLE, this includes a Mercedes-Benz logo carry over that is centrally located, and the same dual chrome grille bars.

We do need to mention though that the GLS 580 comes with large 21-inch wheels while the GLS 450 only gets the standard 19-inch wheels. Also, a night package and an AMG Line are available on the GLS 580. This new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV is expected to hit the dealership in the global auto market latest ending of this year 2019.
