I have noticed the amount of Nigerians traveling abroad to study irrelevant courses then think when they come back, they will be given the jobs.

why do you waste your money and energy studying philosophy, counseling, English in a non-English speaking country, sociology, political science accounting, marketing, PR, history, linguistics, marriage counseling, insurance, sport science, conflict management and all sort of irrelevant courses abroad, all these courses won't put food on your table whether home or abroad, instead of wasting your money studying those courses abroad, you can as well study those courses in Nigeria for cheap.

if you are not studying medicine or STEM subjects abroad (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) pls stop wasting your money and time.

Guys, what is your take?

The reason being when you study in Nigeria, its like running against the wind just like an athlete training with all kind of obstacles. And during the main event when he have to run without those obstacles, he is unstoppable. That is how it is. The way we live our lives here is so hard and we haven't at all made life easy for ourselves with our educational system.
Im presently an undergraduate in one of the best school in the country. I go through some overwhelming stress to receive lectures and the curriculum is so bulky and full of irrelevant things that i don't even need. Now imagine me going to study abroad where everything they've done is making their life easy and there is high rate of specialisation. I dont have to wait for PHCN to bring light before i read, there is almost free WiFi to help with stuffs online. There is intense practical and good grading system.

LOL..who told you that there are no obstacles when studying abroad..curriculum is bulky whether home or abroad, as long as you are studying a very important course... nothing is easy anywhere... even Nigerians dropout abroad.

intense practical you call it... I know guys who studied in the UK and won't be given the opportunity to do IT because you don't have permit or students who won't be given permission to work in some factories for their practicals because that factory is very classified and wont allow foreigners because of patent theft.

the grading system is almost similar everywhere

there are many irrelevant courses, funny enough they are the most expensive in western universities..they do not add any development to you or your country...if you want to be valuable in the labour market, home and abroad.. study medicine or STEm subjects...the rest irrelevant courses taught in many universities can be learnt at home by yourself..

it affects me so much...any sensible country will prefer and give first preference to people who study medicine or STEM subjects rather than someone who study political science, counseling and some irrelevant courses, which add no value to human developmental existence.

do you think..it is just to enter any university and study any course just for visa purpose... the purpose of going to university is to impact value to human society and find solutions to problems affecting civilisations.

You don't just generalize, do you know that if a Nigerian who is studying in Kenya and issued their Student visa stands a higher chance of travelling to many countries outside Africa, people have their strategies.

There is stress everywhere. Lots of student commit suicide in developed countries from the stress of passing courses. In developed countries, you will find lots of universities with passmark of 70%. This is to eliminate mediocrity which is prevalent in 3rd world counteies. I do not think i know of any uni in Nigeria with such high passmark. Different uni have their own methods of stressing students. Nothing good comes easy.

i think in Nigeria 70%-100% is A, in many developed countries in Europe, they use the ECTS grading scale and 90% is A( exceptional) and 70% is B( good)

when did Kenyan student visa starts giving you the opportunity to travel out of Africa? student visa cant be used to travel out of your study destination..the only way you can travel out of the original country of study destination is through exchange programmes and that is if your uni has an agreement with the other uni outside Africa..even with that you still have to apply for visa to your destination.

the reason is just to find an escape route out of this country.

Of course you apply for visa for wherever the intended destination is. It is for fact that Nigerian students in good standing with their legal residency and other documentation can easily apply for tourist visa during their school's holiday to many countries which is not possible if one is in Kenya with just tourist visa or back in Nigeria.

all these courses are not useless abroad. Most that study abroad not studying to come back to Nigeria and use the certificate to work.
Everyone cannot be a fuc.king doctor or an engineer, better for them study their heart desires and what their brain can cope than to be an unhappy doctor or engineer. Everything not about money, it’s about finding joy and pleasure in what you do.

many courses are useless abroad..you wont even be able to find jobs with them....you go to school to get a certificate so that you can have a better life..better life means better pay and that is what your certificate does... there is nothing like it is not about money when finding a job or it is about finding job and pleasure in a job, you do those job because of money and survival and not because of job and pleasure. job and pleasure do not pay bills and give you social mobility.

studying a technical courses like medicine and STEM is the easiest road to social mobility because it comes with higher pay and it is a job that is high on demand.

Do you realize how difficult & competitive Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering & Computer Science are abroad?

Not everyone can handle the rigorous academic workload...

If you fail a course once, you receive an academic warning...

If you fail a course twice, you receive an academic probation/suspension...

If you fail a course thrice, you receive an academic explusion...

So you basically have three trials before you flung out of college & whatever money you’ve already invested is a waste...

Most students are not willing to take such chances...

They’re better off studying courses in which they’re more inclined to perform better rather than studying a course they’ve no passion for...

This same Course Philosophy has paved so many opportunities for me in life. I have never for once regretted taking up philosophy as a major. No course is useless, it a matter of what you made out of the course you studied! I absolutely believe the op is a jambite or an undergraduate that is why he has this sort of mentality.
