We all know doing business in Nigeria isn't too easy as shown in Nigeria's poor position on the "Ease of doing business rankings". Here are the top 3 factors which contribute the most to the difficulty of doing business in Nigeria.

1. BAD EMPLOYEES

This is the biggest killer of businesses in Nigeria today. The greater majority of Nigerian employees are wicked, greedy, self centered and fraudulent. All they care about is what they get from the business, they don't even consider what they can give to the business. They want to make your entire profit as their personal gain. They are just constantly looking for opportunity to steal via various methods.

Because of all this, the business owner has to spend so much extra money on so many levels of internal controls, measures to avoid theft, CCTV, increased security, and so much more, just because of the dishonest nature of Nigerian employees. Fail to put all these in place and the employees will steal your business dry. No wonder businesses who can afford it prefer to employ expensive expatriates to fill sensitive positions rather than Nigerians.

2. CREDIT SALES

This is another problem of doing business in Nigeria as some businesses require sales on credit to get reasonable patronage. This shouldn't be a problem if not for the dishonest nature of Nigerians. Nigerians don't like to pay debt. They look so meek when collecting goods and services on credit but turn to lions when it's time to pay. They'll come up with all sorts of stories and excuses, not minding how such bad debt affects the negatively affects the cash flow on the business being owed.

The worst part is that there is actually no way to recover such debt in Nigeria. Report to the police and they'll tell you dragging debt is not their job. Go to court, and after spending so much time and money there, the debtor could be told to pay a N100,000 debt over 5 or more years.

3. TRADE UNIONS AND ASSOCIATIONS

This is the name under which some Nigerians extort others in their line of business. These market and trade unions don't add any value to business whatsoever, they are just there to extort so money from the business in the name of dues and all sorts of fees. The money they extort is enough to be declared as profit. An example is the Lagos tailor freedom list that made front page few days ago.

There are other factors which contribute to difficultly of business such as poor electricity and all that, but they are negligible when compared to those mentioned above which are the major problems. If they can be fixed, business will become far far easier to in this country.

No 1 should be BAD BUSINESS OWNERS who do care about the welfare of his employees, want you to do 5 people jobs alone, pay you pignut and expect you to guide his business with all your life. Such business owners kills his business with his own hand

Lol. Question is why did the employee take the bad job in the first place?

I've done business before and closed it due to stress. I will do again and will be merciless with my employees.

Nigerians are lazy. Dont they realise salary comes from the work they do? If you dont like it leave it.
