The people are mostly Yoruba, about 80%. The Emir stool though is Northern in Origin.

It's like Benin and Warrior, the people are not Yoruba but the Obaship in Benin and Olu stool in Warri were started by Yoruba after we conquered them. We beat iyalaya won and forced them to follow our awesome tradition.

Itsekiris are basically Riverine yorubas.
Their Olu is not a result of Yoruba cultural hegemony or 'conquering them', but rather an indigenous phenomenon.

You are correct bro. His father's name is Olanrewaju Alabi Opo Ayelabola Sulukhanani Gambari. His is Kolapo Ishola Ibrahim Gambari. Kolapo cos his father was a prince from the Gambari family and the mother another princess of the Abdulkadri line of the dynasty, who could have been an emir if she was a prince.

The removal of the Yoruba names was a ploy to seek northern patronage and protection should situation goes wrong some day.

Its pertinent to mention that different groups settled in yorubaland and became metamorphosed into the tribe. Even Yoruba wasnt the original language of ife. The indigenous language had now been confined to an occultic status only understood by the initiated.

So be it fulani origin, nupe, borgu, bini, kanuri, amaro (brazilian), saro (sierra leone, american, creoles), ogu, aganyin(Togo) etc, the fact remains they are yoruba today and they have contributed immensely to the cultural diversity and richness of the yoruba heritage

masterfactor:

they also said that sango wife is from Nupe kingdom, how true is that

It was the mother that came from Nupe land and he got the power to conquer fire from there. His wife was Oya. Dont know her origin though. The popular river oya was named after her.

Almunjid:

That's what some historians said especially the Nupe among them. grin

It was believed that the Nupe, Igala and probably Ebira are from the same root.

Even Sultan was describing the Yorubas to the British he refered to them as being of same source with the Noofes(Nupes). After the fulani hijacked their traditional stool, the fulani elements in Nupeland have been trying to give them an hausa-fulani outlook.

But it is noteworthy to point out that the Nupes are distinct people different from the hausa or fulanis and they have fought alongside the Yorubas to rid their lands of fulani domination in the past.

@Op , u have clearly shown us that u re edited this thread already created by one mr anonymous (previously on Yoruba traditional rulers) because u failed to edit some line.....check beneath!

2. from ur listing its has clearly shown that u are from or based in zamfara state, you can argue this though........because out the emir u listed both 3 of them from zamfara not even qualified to be called first class emir.....

next time @op work on your spelling pls....

its kwatarkwashi
its talata mafara

nice job,!
