Intel And Qualcomm Reportedly Join Google In Huawei Ban by seunfly: 6:41am On May 20, 2019
Huawei’s bad weekend is turning worse as the company’s American suppliers are all falling in line with a US government edict banning them from doing business with the company. Bloomberg now reports that Intel, Qualcomm, and Broadcom, three of the world’s leading chip designers and suppliers, are cutting off their dealings with Huawei, effective immediately. This follows the earlier news of Google abruptly rescinding Huawei’s Android license and halting its access to Google Play Services and the Play Store, effectively dumping it out of the Android smartphone market and forcing the Chinese company to develop its own version atop the barebone open-source edition of Android.

According to Bloomberg’s sources, employees across the major US chipmakers have been informed that their companies will freeze their supply deals with Huawei until further notice. Intel provides Huawei with server chips and the processors for its laptop line, while Qualcomm figures less prominently in providing modems and other processors. Huawei’s actually quite well insulated from the Qualcomm impact, as it builds its own mobile processors and modems. Another Bloomberg report suggests Huawei has also been preparing for this eventuality by stockpiling chips from US suppliers to last it at least three months, which should be enough time to tell if the current measure is a scare tactic or a permanent imposition from the US government.

Huawei has also been developing in-house alternatives to Android and Windows, specifically to try and address a situation such as the present one. Microsoft hasn’t yet commented on whether it will continue to provide the Windows operating system for Huawei laptops, but odds are that it too will respect the US government’s orders.

The effort by the US government to sideline Huawei has been going for a long time, and the company was last year unceremoniously rebuffed in its effort to enter the US phone market. The current escalation is part of an increasingly hostile trade dispute between the Trump administration and the Chinese government, with the former trying to force a renegotiation of the trading relationship between the two.

American government can't really stand the competition from Huawei, so Trump has ordered the death warrant of Huawei.

There are reports Huawei is aware it will be the target of America's death wish and it has been developing alot of stuff secretly, which includes Kirin OS to replace Google andriod and other things.
It is also reported that Huawei has been stock piling chips and semi conductors since the incedent of ZTE, let us wait and see.

The question now is will China do same for Apple by banning all Chinese supply chain from supply parts for Apple, Apple has already moved some of its assembly plants to India but China still control the supply chain.

Huawei is finished! Consumers will just boycott their products instead of going through future stress. All other Chinese brands like Xiaomi and Oppo should be very worried!

China has banned google, Facebook, Insta and other US tech giants for long, denying them access to China's enormous population and market.

They even actively try to kill US companies that try to set up in China in favour of their own companies.

Were they thinking the situation will continue without any reciprocity??

No need to worry, Huawei already uses its own Kirin chips for their phones as for laptops AMD or Samsung can supply chips for them!!

I hardly seeing Huawei surviving these sanctions.

This is one of the most escalated trade war tactics in modern history between the two biggest economic giants.

Huawei product depends on lots of American software companies to power their innovations and replacing them would be a herculean task. It'd take years to bounce back (ZTE I'm looking at you )

Hmm... I guess this will trickle down to the Nigeria market as well...

But trust those Chinese guys... They certainly will have back up plan to cushion the effect it will have on them...

The issues with kirin chips is that the architecture is still based on ARM SOC which is licensed from America but Taiwanese company bought up a silimar company in 2016, many people claimed China intentionally took that step as a back for something like this.

You are not informed. Huawei has started their own chip far back 5years ago. The chip has passed test phase and awaiting rolling it out on their next flagship devices. USA sanctions can't hold Huawei back a bit.

Don't be too sure when u don't have fact other than Western media propaganda. Do you even know the Chinese? Huawei is big; a company that has many section of operations ranging from phones, telecommunications equipment, software( under development since 2012) and chips making(Kirin ).
This act by US government is just to slow Huawei down from being the first to launch 5Gtechnology.
