Happy world sickle cell day. I celebrate all warriors ( sicklier ) the world over today. You are in indeed a warrior. Never let anyone make you feel inferior to others who are not a sicklier. You've overcome battles many of us who are not SS/SC/CC can only imagine of overcoming.

As a warrior you've been very active in battles and have won many battles, and most likely will still face many more battles and win or eventually be defeated. And even when you end up being defeated, you lose out gallantly like a warrior will do. Not as a weak hearted human but as a real warrior that you are.

And to everyone of us who are not SS, let's learn not to discriminate those who are, let's not forget that they didn't put themselves in this condition. And to our youths and those about to get married, please note that LOVE won't overcome sickle cell and GOD will MOST of the time not help you if you fail to help yourself, he gave you a brain for a reason. If you are AS, no point tempting the GOOD LORD, you can't marry AS. AS should not follick with AS, SC and SS and vice versa and then be disturbing GOD with cries. He gave you a brain for a reason. Use it.

It is better avoided. Than tried and regreted. As an AS myself I know it is tough especially when you like someone and you have to wonder if they are a genotype that is compatible with yours but having lost important people to sickle cell, I am sure it would even be tougher.
