Build Careers In ICT, Solar Tech, Mrs Akeredolu Urges Girls by joshuaakindele7(m): 10:03am On Jun 21, 2019
The First Lady of Ondo State, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu -Akeredolu has called on young girls to build careers in Information Communication and Technology(ICT) and solar technology.

Mrs Akeredolu stated this recently while welcoming members of Flourish Bible Church, Akure led by its General Overseer, Pastor Ibukun Oluwatayo who came in company of Ms. Rebacce Huey, an American on a missionary project to Nigeria, to acquaint the first lady of her mission.

Mrs. Akeredolu said that her laudable project, BEMORE, is aimed at impacting knowledge through science and technology.

Emphasising the role of ICT in changing the world, the First Lady said that more young girls should be encouraged to pick up interest in ICT technology and sciences by creating opportunities for them to excel.

She noted that beneficiaries of the project are girls from humble backgrounds who have been taken into the technology-driven world especially ICT and solar technology and impacted with other life enhancing skills.

“One of our girls, Tolu Ehimosan, was one of the girls who participated in BEMORE Summer Bootcamp 2017, she went to the World Energy Conference in Tehran, Iran and came up as 2nd runner up. She is from Okitipupa, a daughter of a roadside corn seller. She is currently studying Computer Engineering at the University of Lagos.

“Another one, Marvelous Jegede, built a solar panel and installed in her house, presently, we are using her project to compete for CNN heroes “

Arabinrin Akeredolu further revealed that no fewer than 750 girls had benefitted so far, as she assured that addition of 400 young girls would be admitted this year. “It is pitiable that most of our young girls are unaware of the digital world and consequently sidelined because their parents do not have wherewithal to provide them with computers or laptops that will create access to this new world.

“That is why I created BEMORE so that our young girls can have interest in Science, Mathematics and ICT, and this is the third year of the project. We are training them to go to areas considered as men’s world and these girls are doing great and amazingly. They are also educated on breast health. In fact, they are advocates of breast cancer awareness.”

The First Lady while appreciating Ms. Huey and her foundation for being one of her followers on her Twitter handle added that training and empowering women is tantamount to nation building. She acknowledged the amazing and immense contributions of the social media to the world, saying it has bridged thousands of miles thereby bringing people together where they can connect easily, affordably and instantly across the globe.
