google Turbo C - Mind you this is not for Teamcenter/Pro C guys! If you need a C/C++ compiler for your own use (i.e. non-commercial), then try Microsoft Visuall C++. YOur onl problem would be the Libraries are abit limited. There are couple of others I could recommend, however you have to be more specific what you will be using the compler for i.e. professional programmer/software developer or just a troll C programmer ( i.e a student in C/C++)? |

ray4life: Good start! yup meeksoft has got one more friend , okay I guess your are not a newbie to using MSVC/C++ compiler but just bear in mind that when compiling C codes in C++ compilers, you would have to be carefule when not to use C++ keywords in your C codes! In case you do not know! To edit your C program: From the main menu select File -> New -> Project In the New Project window: Under Project types, select Win32 - Win32 Console Application Name your project, and specify a location for your project directory Click 'OK', then 'next' In the Application Wizard: Select Console application Select Empty project Deselect Precompiled header Once the project has been created, in the window on the left hand side you should see three folders: Header Files Resource Files Source Files Right-click on Source Files and Select Add-> New Item Select Code, and give the file a name The default here will be a file with a *.cpp extension (for a C++ file). After creating the file, save it as a *.c file. To compile and run: Press the green play button. By default, you will be running in debug mode and it will run your code and bring up the command window. To prevent the command window from closing as soon as the program finishes execution, add the following line to the end of your main function: getchar(); This library function waits for any input key, and will therefore keep your console window open until a key is pressed. |

thanks Omo Tier1 for the 411, I was actually looking for a simple windows based easy to use IDE that I can use to introduce some newbies to C/C++ programming. I actually got one at http://www.smorgasbordet.com/pellesc/ but the problem is that it compiles only C code. So I'm gonna stick with Visual Studio Express. thanks again. |

ray4life: So do I take it then that you are an advanced programmer in C/C++ ? Have you actually written and deployed any C code using Pelles C ? |

Omo_Tier1: No, I just program in C in my spare time and to teach newbies programming fundamentals, my day job is developing desktop database applications and I use Microsoft Visual Foxpro 9.0 and SQL Server as my backend, often I get a lot of flak from friends who think Visual foxpro is a bit outdated. But, hey, I do serious job with it and my apps look and function just like any other application written in any .NET platform. That said, I am gradually migrating to C# and I'm loving it. |
