So you took the time to understand all the details of the brand new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, right? The 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 delivers 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, and features a rear-mounted eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with a resulting 3.0-second speed.

These are some impressive numbers, but of course it's the mid-engine layout that makes everyone talk. The
front engine fanboys will tell you that this is no longer a Corvette, but the move has been rumored since the 1970s.

And that's why we're all here. This mid-engine layout not only helps the road car, it should also be invaluable for the car you see in the grainy pictures above. This is the brand new Corvette C8.R, which will soon be introduced to replace the current Chevrolet C7.R long-distance racer.


Details of the C8.R are barely known to us - these images are just screenshots from the road car revelation video - but we can safely assume that it will be in both the FIA World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship compete.


From the C8.R we also hope for two things. First, we hope it will get the classic yellow Corvette Racing livery. And secondly, we desperately hope it gives the outgoing C7.R GT car a similarly titillating sound.

This monster made its debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona 2014, so we could possibly see the C8.R in the same race in 2020 - though this is just speculation for now.
