With the mission to become the most respected medical institution of India while providing the highest quality of patient care, Jaslok Hospital Mumbai is one of the oldest tertiary care and multi-specialty trust hospitals in the country. The institution was bestowed to the city of Mumbai by Seth Lookoomia Chanrai in the late 60s when the establishment of large, private hospitals was not at all popular. Situated at Dr. G Deshmukh Marge, Peddar Road, one of the main artery of South Mumbai, the hospital stands above the other structures while it overlooks the Arabian Sea. The name of the hospital was derived from the names of its founder and his wife, Seth LokoomaL and Smt. Jasotibai, and the erstwhile Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, inaugurated it on 6th July 1973.

Jaslok Hospital Mumbai is a private, full-fledged, multi-specialty hospital, with 348 beds of which 57 are ICU beds. The number of specialists has increased from the initial 50 to about 270, with 190 fully trained resident doctors. It also has a college of nursing which provides B. Sc. Nursing Degree with annual admission of 25 students. The hospital has all qualified nurses and some of them also have additional qualification & specialization.

The institute also conducts a lot of research activities in various fields in collaboration with other institutions in India and abroad. Most of all, the hospital has grown into a training institution and a tertiary referral center for providing treatment for advanced and complex problems, and it not only attracts patients from Mumbai but also from all parts of Maharashtra, other states, and abroad. Thus, citizens from all over India have availed the advanced facilities offered by the hospital.

The hospital also plays a rather important role in serving the less fortunate sections of the society which has always been an important part of the vision of its founders. Since its inception, the hospital has secured a notable number of free and subsidized beds. In addition to that, the hospital treats patients from some establishments including orphanages free of cost, and concessions are also granted to senior citizens while an active social work department helps the needy patients with donations from the trusts.
