Please help pass this to anyone who is in a position of authority/responsibility in Nigerian healthcare.

If you are in a position of authority/responsibility in healthcare, and you have not pressed your colleagues/community to take some action on this, you are failing yourself, your people and your country.
There is a need for visible & effective steps to prime our defenses in view of Ebola outbreak expansion in Congo. It has spread to a major city in Congo. This is not to create any panic. Rather, to prevent avoidable suffering in case the undesirable happens.
If no one in the govt is picking this up, medical professionals must take the responsibility to stimulate a response. They need to press all responsible parties that this needs to be done.

What is it that needs to be done?
Simple key points:
1. Start paying extra attention to any flights/travel from that region. People can take connecting flights, so you need to keep an eye on the region.
2. Commence mandatory and coordinated screening of flights directly from Congo.
3. Stockpile response materials, medication and equipment to a calculated level for response in the event of cases
4. Identify and touch-up the places that can be used as treatment centers. Check the readiness of labs. Wont be surprised if the place used in 2014 has not been swept since when the last cases ended.
5. Re-emphasize communication channels between health care officials during this period.

There has to be something we learnt from the last cases we had in Nigeria. Lets not all act like doing these kind of things are beyond our intelligence.

There are people in ministry of health, Nigerian medical assoc., major health institutions around the country who are watching what is developing and shrugging their shoulders, complaining all day about politics. We dont have to wait till something undesirable happens before we start fire-fighting.

We all agreed the other time that we are not a "shithole" country. Only "shithole" countries/people have an experience like the 2014 outbreak, and just sit/stare in the face of current developments, unable to bring themselves together to develop an organized response.
If there is any preparation already being done by those in positions, tell us about it.

Not only must preparation be done, it must be seen to be done.
