CHAPTER ONE

And now abide faith,

Infatuation is when you find someone who is perfect love is when you realize that they aren’t and it doesn’t matter.

“What the hell is this?”
Rose groaned angrily as she hit the man lying lifelessly on the ground. She hitted him harder but he wasn’t  moving she hissed and make her way to the kitchen item mother was chopping onions when she entered, she looked stressed up. Nikky noticed her daughter entrance and greeted her.
“Hello sweetie”
She smiled at her but the smiled wasn’t returned. She was concern about what could be wrong with her this early morning. Nikky have being very protective of her daughter  especially gaining admission into Cambridge College, one of the most influential and well know school in the country. She dropped the knife she was holding and walks towards her daughter.
“What is wrong with you sweetheart, isn’t it too early for you to give me that type of look?”
She said as she brushes back the strand of hair on her daughters face.
“Mum, how on earth will daddy get drunk today of all days when he knows he will be driving me to school”. She hissed and added.
“God known when he is going to wake up today I am seriously tired of all these.”   She said laying emphasis on the last word as she raised her hands up feeling pissed up.
Nikky draw her daughter to herself in a tight embrace and patted her back. Tears crowded here eye as her mind flashed back. Matin has being the best husband ever until he started drinking which happen when he lost his job which led to the death of our son, Greg.
FLASH BACK
Martin was fully dressed in a black suit with a white camisole under it that very day, he never thought that the worst will happen. I escorted him out of the house, ̀he kissed me before entering his car and drove off, I felt depressed and incomplete, I didn’t know what could have caused it  I dismissed the thought going through my mind went back inside. Rose was fully dressed for school, she helped her junior brother with his foot wear I changed my clothes and took them to school.
When I came back home, I met martins car outside I was surprise because I never expected him to be at home by that time. I trusted inside only to meet my husband drinking which he hardly do, he had already finished two bottles already and he was on the third one. I yanked it away from him and he burst into fresh tears.
‘Martin, what happen? Are you okay? Is every thing alright? I asked as I caressed his cheek; he held me tightly as he kept on crying.
“I lost my job” he said in between his tears. I couldn’t trust myself to say anything; my tears were coming down already. A lot of questions flow through my mind but I dare not ask him. Martin has being the bread winner of the family, I didn’t have a job, I have to quit mine to take care of my family and now he lost his. We were on this when my phone rang behind me, I felt reluctant to pick up at first, when it rang the second time I cleared my, voice and spoke.
“Hello”
“Mrs. Maxwall” the caller called out
“Yes, how can I help you I said trying to compose myself.
This is Greg class teacher, Greg just fainted and he has being rushed to the hospital.                   ”Not again I almost said aloud                                                                                                      I ended the call and looked at my husband who was expecting me to say something.
When we arrived at the hospital, the doctor invited us to his office, he told us that his case was a critical one and he needed to be operated on immediately.
Greg has being complaining about his stomach for over a year, he use drug which make him get better, until last two month when we have to rush him to the hospital,  the doctor said there was a lump inside the stomach and needed to be operated on, he gave him drug which helps to subsides the pain.
We gathered all the money that was available but it wasn’t enough and the doctor insisted on not performing the operation until the money his complete.
Martin called himself a loser, we couldn’t borrow money because there was nothing to use as a collated, we…
End of Flash Back
“Mum!” Rose called, releasing herself from my arm, it was then I realized that I was deep in thought.
“Are you okay mum” she asked showing some emotion 
“Yes, yes am fine” I said as I brush my tears away
“But, mum you…..” I cut in
“Trust me dear am fine. Go get dress I will drive you to school”                      I said as I turn back to what I was doing earlier.
“Okay mum, and don’t be long” she said as she left kitchen and run upstairs. Rose is now a fully grown lady I thought, she looks beautiful, she has a slim body down to her waist but trust me she get this curvaceous hips and round boot. She someone of average height, she has a long black hair, spotless leg and a dark blue eyebrow; she is my everything and am very possessive of her. She always dream to work in the bank, she really love following me to bank when she was young. I couldn’t miss the excitement and the broad smile she got on her lip when she was offered admission to study accounting.
Nikky picked her phone and dialed a number
“Hello” I said
“Hi Nikky, how you doing”
“Am fine, can you please stand in for me this morning, I will be a bit late” Nikky asked in a pleading voice.
“Yes, sure anything for you baby, but why?”
“I want to drop Rose in school”
“Oh, alright, you don’t have to bother coming I can cover up for you”
I smiled and reply
“No, no, no, don’t do that I will be back immediately I drop her. Thanks dear, bye”. I quickly said as I dropped the call. When a guy seriously needs you then he will be ready to do anything for you. I smiled at that thought and hurriedly finished my work.

Rose Pov
“Is it that am scared or what?” I felt restless nervous, the excitement was no longer there again. My mind flashed back to my first day in high school.
Flash Back
Back then, I looked so young and innocent, my mum couldn’t bring me to school that day, dad went early to work and Greg couldn’t go to school because he was sick. As I get out from the taxi, I adjusted my dress, fixed my hair properly and I walked towards the bursary block. I noticed some set of girls coming behind me, they were laughing and talking loudly, It sound like homing so I couldn’t pick a word out of what they were saying. Before I know what was happening I was already on the ground, I tried to stand up by I couldn’t, I fell again. The girls were laughing and it was very annoying, I clenched my teeth together, it was so painful and that was the most embarrassing moment. Being naïve and shy I couldn’t do anything, my clothes were already dirty, I couldn’t enter the bursary office anymore otherwise I will get a new dress and there is no money to pay for that.
I picked up my bag and went to find my class, as I walked down the long corridor, the student were laughing and pointing at me, it was really awkward but I show not to be concern. Locating my class wasn’t that stressful, it was noisy. I sighted an empty sit at the last row. I make a move toward there, I walked there, arranged my book, clean the locker and chair I went to the front sit to dispose the dirt with me, turning back to walk  towards my sit I met the biggest shock of my life. The three girls were back again, one was sitting on my chair with her legs on my locker, one of cleaning her shoe on my locker with water and rag. I was so upset and shy, I never wasn’t a type to look for trouble. I don’t have a friend yet, I was a new student although I resumed late. As I approach them one of them spoke        “You look so dirty, OMG!. You really stink”                                                                 They all laughed, as she finished another one spoke. They laughed again and this time gaining the attention of the other student. I was so angry that I didn’t realize that I just slapped one of them. They were so shocked and wanted to bounce on me when a blonde hair girl spoke from behind. She really save my face that day and we became friend. Trust me, from that day I never dull my self.
End of Flash Back
“Rose!, Rose!”
I didn’t realize that she has packed her car already waiting for me to come down.
“Am sorry mum” I quickly said as I stepped out of the car.
The school is beautiful and big. Gaining admission into Cambridge College was the last thing I ever thought could happen. The school belongs to rich and influential people children. I brought out my phone to call my friend.
“Kate” I called immediately she picked the call
“Hello sweetie, are you around” she asked
“Yes, just got here few minutes ago”
“Okay, but too bad of you, it takes you ages to get here, my back are hurt already. Anyway am in the parking block, where are you?”
“Am so sorry dear, that is where I am also maybe you should step out” I said and hanged up.
“Hello pretty”
I almost flew, I was so shocked, I turn around to check the misery person
“Kate” I gasped.
“That is too bad, you don’t even recognize my voice anymore” she said pouting her lip.
“Am so sorry” I hugged my friend, she look fatter and prettier she is a blonde hair girl, tall and slim, she has a model-like body.
“you look beautiful, how was your summer”
She smiled as if remembering something.
“My summer was interesting, let save the gist for later”
We both walked to where my mum parked earlier and she greeted her
“Hi Nikky” she said before hugging her
“Hello sweetie, how are you doing?”
“Am fine ma” she answered her and turned back to me
“Come on let go, I hope you know you resumed late anyway I save a space for you, you are going to be my roommate”. She stopped to check my reaction.
“ I hope you didn’t mind”
“That should be an understand statement, you know I get no choice and I love you”, I said as I hugged her. I turned back to my mum, I hugged her and bid her good bye.
“I am going to miss you dear, please take care of you self and behave well”. Nikky said as she blinked back her tears. We waited for her to turn on her car engine before we left the park. Kate grabs my hand and draw me closer to her as she whisper something to my ear. I gasped
“You gat to be kidding me”.

ROSE POV.
I haven’t gotten hold of myself since Kate spoke about my crush. Anyway, I haven’t met him before but he his always on television, newspaper, magazine and social medias. He comes from a wealthy family, wealthy as in with a snap of finger the country can be changed. He is hot, really handsome and a man of every ladies dream.
I tried all I could to get more information about him from Kate but she won’t answer me, recalling our conversation earlier.
“Kate are you serious, have you met him? Is he as handsome as the one on television? Were you able to know the type of girls he like, how…..?
Kate was very angry and cut her off.
“What the hell Rose, why all these stupid questions?”
She paused to calm herself down and continue.
“Fine, I know you had  crush on him but you don’t have to be so obsess about him”.
“Am sorry”, I said but I still needed answer, she wont just cut me off that way.
“But won’t you at least say something about him please…..?”            I begged with a pouted lip I know that it very annoying but I can’t just help it. Being in the same school with my crush, I smiled about how it will look like when I finally meet him can’t just wait to touch him, no is lip will be amazing, no….
“Rose! Kate shouted
“Yes, will you tell me now”
“You are seriously sick, why were you smiling?”
“Uhmm….about that” I blushed feeling embarrassed that Kate cut me, I frowned my face to be serious.
“Is not your business so forget it” I said hoping she won’t ask about it anymore.
“Oh…., then it is not my business to talk about your so called crush so forget it.” She said mimicking
“Abah na….am sorry, I was actually thinking about him? I confess burying face in between my hands”
“Kate started laughing which make me annoyed.
“There you go Kate, if I didn’t tell you know you will be angry, cut the crap Kate. I’m going to bed”
I stood up but she immediately suck up.
“Am sorry Rose…..is just that I can’t help but laugh, anyway I’m going to tell you”
“Really” I questioned and sat down again.
“Actually there is nothing much, he is the richest boy in the college, he is loved by people because he dress very well, he is the best athlete in the school, he is in third year, he is handsome and ……Rose you should know since you do browse about him”. She said getting bored with the discussion.

“Excuse me! Excuse me!! Excuse me!!!
That was all I could hear as I waked down the hall with Kate. The student were rushing toward the front corridor.
“Where are they rushing to?
“That is how they welcome Liam Crawford every morning”
“Wait, wait, you mean the same Liam”
“Yes” She said dismissing my strange mood.
“Kate, slow down, how do I look, is my dress okay? Does my makeup need adjustment?” she just looked at me and nodded. She was irritated by my behavior and he walked away.
I ignored her and walked towards the group of student standing and waiting for Liam to come inside. I tried to squeeze myself in between and find my way to the front.
I felt nervous as he walked down the corridor, or he look stunning, my gaze were only on him that I didn’t realize that he wasn’t walking alone.
“OMG, this guy is really a breath taking, should I go and meet him? What will I say? That I have crush on him? No, that am a fan of his? No, o God what should I say, I must talk to him, Kat…..” I raised my head up due to the murmuring of the people around me”
“What!”  I felt choked up all of a sudden, Liam and a black hair girl kissing? She looks beautiful and the way she dress it shows she from a rich family.
“Calm down Rose, you should expect that, he can’t mingle with people like you? I dismissed the thought still very angry. I thought the kiss was going to be a light one but it turns out be get deeper and people just stood there watching them like a celebrity show. I felt my anger rise again and spoke.
“Who the hell are you to kiss him with almost half of the college student staring at you like a celebrity show” I sound like a jealous bitch but I don’t care as I continue.
“Where the hell do you come from? You are just so cheap” I said angrily; it was then I noticed that all attention where now on me. I saw her whispered something to him, after that she stepped forward receiving the unexpected as she got to my fronts. I placed my hand on my cheek I was about to return mine when a hand grab mine from behind. I looked at the person he wasn’t smiling and he gave me the glance of “Don’t you dare”. I dropped my hand and the hall turn noisy immediately. Then she spoke.
And who are you to question me, I can do anything with anybody I wish without anybody making it their business? She moved closer towards me.
“Except if you are new in this campus, you should know that Liam is my boyfriend. You are really so lucky that I am in a very good mood this morning otherwise I will have shown you your position. Let this be the last time we will cross each other.”
She paused and continue
“Otherwise, you won’t graduate from this school”
I felt so angry that I tried to protest.
“Who are you to threaten me? Do you think money is everything? You senseless ba…….”
“Oh please shut it? She cut in angrily
“You still get the nerve to talk back right? I believe have make myself cleared already”
She paused and check me out
“Next time sweetie check out the person you want to talk to before opening your mouth, because I feel irritated already……..Now get the hell out of here you crazy bastard daughter of the gutter”.
I can’t take this anymore, I felt my eyes filled with tears but I won’t let this people see how weak I am now. I tried to talk but she was gone. The whole corridor was freaking noisy, a large number of them were mocking and pointing toward me, few were recording it. The comment were so harsh that I felt uncomfortable my tears were now rushing, I run down, the corridor not knowing where I was heading to. I ran into a room not checking the people presence inside, my eye caught a keyboard. I went to sit and play it. I wanted something that could calm me at that moment. I played breathless by Shayne Ward. I sang along as a played. As I finished the song, I felt relieved but still not conscious of my environment I was brought back by someone clap and later the clapping become louder. I looked up and was staring at three handsome faces. One of them stepped forward he looked more handsome, he smiled at me and stretch his hand towards me.
“Am Jason Switzer”
Returning his handshake
“Rose Maxwell” I replied and tried to smile back
“You played very well and you have a good voice also”
“Thanks for the compliment and I’m very sorry about the way I badge in earlier, I was, was…. Jason cut in smiling
“Is okay, you look hurt and needed something to comfort yourself. Feel free to come in anytime. This is my musical room and those guys out there are my friends.”
“Oh…..” was all I could say as my reply, how could he own this place alone I thought within myself who is he? I was very curious but I couldn’t ask him
“Anyway Rose, can we be friends?”
