Dunces have been known to make 2:1s (or higher), when above average students make 3rd's or worse.

In Nigeria particularly, grade is a biased indicator of ability.

@Poster - You're unlikely to make it into any elite UK (or elsewhere) university.  However, there are a good number of universities (and affiliate colleges) that will accept you.

Yet why exactly do you want to do a "MASTERS"?? If it is solely for employment advantages then you may just be wasting your time. Would employers not consider your primary degree?.
In that wise you are better off pursuing  professional certification, and building up core competency

As for universities in the UK offering admission to 3rd class holders from Nigerian universities forget about that. The most you can get is a "post graduate" diploma which is a fancy name for giving you another opportunity to study undergraduate modules in your discipline. Its not cheap by the way.

You are better off  staying in Nigeria and getting a proper job of work  or trade.

@pOSTER. I will suggest a top-up bachelors degree in the UK for you. Its only for a year and you will not just have the chance of doing a masters later, you have an opportunity to better your bachelor degree grade. As for fees, you may choose a college that has affiliation with a big university. You pay less and still earn their certificate. I hope this helps.

Don't kid yourself that that is indeed the case. If you are talking about scientific and technical courses then overwhelmingly yes  but not necessarily in management courses like finance and accounting
You are better off studying at a reputable private business school in Nigeria, if at all going for another certificate is really necessary, which  may not be the case.
In my view you should focus on getting a proper job or starting a business for now and forget about acquiring more academic qualifications.

Hi .You can do a masters degree with a 3rd class directly in the UK. But as stated earlier, you would need to quote a minimum of 3-5yrs working experience to compensate for your low grade. Schools that may consider you for admission are Glasgow caledonian university and so many others. Though the school are fairly k but i would prefer you don't study in the UK rather you look towards other countries like Canada or America  where you may have to practice your profession. Otherwise Lagos Business school would be a preferred a choice. Please do not come to the UK, they take your money and send you back home when you finish course.

That may indeed be the case.Some universities even only require a pass degree as their admission criteria. However all the reputable ones do require a second class honours degree.
However it is a matter of choice and entirely up to the OP if he decides to go to any university in the UK.

@op, You really do not need an advise here. You just have to be sincere to yourself. If you made a 3rd class and for all the barage of excuses you might have, it does show that you are likely to struggle with a masters degree programme. I am sure you are not one of those that just needs the certificate by all means and therefore will resort to the shamefull thing some Nigerian students do over here - i.e. have others do their school work and dissertation for them.

I will advise you to go for a PGD and after that assess your strength and performance and then decide if you really need a Masters degree. In my opinion, there will be no need to go and waste 10-12k pounds or more in school fees at a back-yard university whose certificate is completely worthless in the market.

no way, Don't let anyone decieve you, you must do your PGD first. That is what HND holders do, i think it's just a year not to sure though. Don't be discouraged, you need it cos it'll get to a point in Naija when employers won't ask for 1st degree again.

Be careful when you Google degree awarding universities in the UK. There are some bogus degree awarding universities all over the world who parade themselves as UK.

This is why I suggest you check actual UK government website for accurate information and check each website of the university of your choice depending on the course you plan to do:

I want to tell u that u can dom ur masters in unilag with 3rd class.My friend finished from UI wit 3rd class in geology, and he later got admission for masters to study environmenat engineering in unlag.
When i asked him hw he did it, he said he did teh test very well and his referees.
Nothing stops u from taking their form, take the test and see may be u will be admitted or not.And if it doesnt work, then go for PGD but like somebody said, u dont waste ur time on masters, u can go for some prof courses to build ur career.
I have friends that graduated with 3rd class from the same university and immediately after NYSC,they travelled to Uk for their masters.
Some UK sculs will give u admission since they know u r giving them more money.You dont have to have experince be4 u r given admission in the Uk for masters.
