Every year in Uganda, vintage car owners, mechanics, car lovers, and car collectors gather to appreciate their prized possessions and this year wasn’t an exception.

This year is the 8th Edition of Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA), sponsors of CBA Uganda Vintage And Classic Auto Event, themed, “For The Love Of Machines”. It was held on Saturday 27th July 2019 at Sheraton Hotel Kampala, Uganda.

The show was themed “Love of the Machines” to celebrate and reward the growing love for vintage restoration within Uganda and rest of East Africa. Winning cars, garages and mechanics who keep these gems on the road were rewarded.

For the first time, the over 50 best collectibles, exhibited at the show were rewarded. Everything exhibited must be at least 25year old.
The theme dressing for this event will be “auto inspired wear”

A classic local band, AFRIGO BAND entertained the Show Attendees this year.

This event was supported by the Federation of Motorsports of Uganda (FMU) and the Automobile Association of Uganda (AAU)
The vintage cars will be judged based on: its age (25years is minimum age), how well the car is restored, and how long it has been running.

Awards:
The following awards and derivatives was introduced for the first time in 2019:

• Vintage car of the Year: This was won by British made Wolsley 1937 owned by Calvin Kagwa

•Vintage Mechanic of the Year- The mechanic with the largest number of winning cars at the show Vintage and it was won by Mr Rajiv Ruparelia.

•Garage of the year-The garage with the largest number of winning cars at the show

• Collectible of the year– The best kept/restored collectible. It was won by this 1971 VW Combi

• Best Upcountry car -The best of the cars that come from outside 100km of Kampala City

• “Burst-a-Piston” Award: The car that tried hardest to the event. This award was won by 1968 Volkswagen Kombi (“Danfo”).

• This 1974 Rolls Royce Corniche, also owned by Rajiv Ruparelia, won the 2nd best overall car

I remember those days (80's/90s) when Kombi (DANFO) was used for transportation in Lagosgrin cool
