Prices of food items including rice, chicken, turkey, tomato paste, etc have gone up by at least 25% days after the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS closed the Seme border.

Nigeria Today correspondent, Lawrence Solomon who visited Aguda market, a popular staple food arena in Surulere, Lagos reports that prices of 50KG of imported foreign rice have increased from N14,000 to between N18,500 to N19,000 within the past few days.

The brands of rice sampled include Royal Stallion, Mama Gold, Capricon and others. Some traders have already run out of stock of these imported foreign brands.

Prices of one kilogram of chicken have also risen from N1,100 to N1,600, while the price of one kilogram of turkey has risen from N1,200 to N1,700
