Leicester City will not be going to Manchester United to settle for a draw, Marc Albrighton has declared.

Three points is the target for Brendan Rodgers’ side when Premier League football returns next weekend, despite City’s 21-year winless run at Old Trafford.


Not since Tony Cottee’s goal secured a 1-0 victory in 1998 have Leicester beaten the Red Devils in Manchester but that matters not for Albrighton.

City will go into the game above United in the table and they hope the momentum they have built so far will see them overcome Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.


“We need to go to places like Old Trafford to win, not going there being overawed by it all,” Albrighton told LCFC.com. “We’re going there for three points and that’s it.

“The big games against Manchester United away mean nothing if you’re not picking up three points against other teams at home, like we did against Bournemouth.

“They’re always difficult, they’re always going to be tricky, but you’ve got to win those games and that’s where you pick up your points.”

Although City lost twice to United last season, their record against the so-called big six has been good of late.

From four games under Rodgers against the elite group, City have won once, drawn twice and lost only once.

It has traditionally been against bottom-half sides who sit deep that City have been underwhelming, but there have been signs of improvement under Rodgers.

“In the last couple of years, we’ve done well against the bigger sides and let ourselves down in the games where we look at it and feel like we should be picking up all three points,” said Albrighton.

“We’d struggled to break teams down and struggled to get that early goal, and we’ve usually ended up conceding first and chasing the game.

“That puts us in a difficult position, because once you go a goal down in this league, it’s hard to overturn that.

"I feel like we’ve improved on that, especially towards the back end of last season. The start of this season has gone well, too, so it’s positive signs.”
