so that would make the car just veer off the road without speeding. Just like that?

I see you really know everything about cars but lack basic understanding of physics.
I am speaking from a technician's angle. Ask a reputable technician what tie rod is. And what can happen to a vehicle if it suddenly snaps while the vehicle is on motion.

If it was a mechanical fault, it's either the car will come to a halt, lose power or catch fire(electrical fault) but can never veer off the road to plunge in a river.
Mechanical fault could cause accident like this oga expecially when steering suddenly got stiffed while on motion at sharp bend. It was ugly experience I've had back then at J4 ogun state while travelling from the east to Lagos back then with 2003 toyota corolla. Such fault is rare but could make vehicle veer off the road suddenly.

You can't check everything. Even if you are a technician. I could still recall when my former boss drove from PH to calabar doing 140km/hr. The following morning I was doing a routine check up on the vehicle I discovered that the tie rod end was almost disengage from the wheel hub. If that had happened he would have found himself in the valley or inside the Bush. That's if you survive then you can live to tell the tale

140km/hr
Where him sef dey fly go
