sadly the average Nigerian ( our leaders inclusive ) think short term and not long term. Lack of knowledge also goes a long way in affecting the kind of decisions our leaders make. You don’t grow a sector by killing your own. The only way Nigeria can grow is by expanding operations of Nigerian companies . Nigeria has the market but does not have a solid airline. Air peace has been making moves to widen their coverage and connectivity and airlines like Ethiopian are worried about this and are doing everything to kill the Nigerian airline. Remember all these foreign airlines do is to drop passengers , take passengers and have money from ticket sales repatriated to their home country. They don’t create jobs . They don’t boost the country’s GDP . They charge above average rates on Nigerian routes . I’ll rather a strong Nigerian airline emerge than what is happening in the sector.

The Foreign Airlines i.e Turkish Air, Ethiopian Airlines will receive Payment for the local ticket travel in Naira and then at the End of the Quarter or Year go to Central Bank of Nigeria to change money they received from Local Ticket Travel into dollars and then our Foreign exchange reserves will be falling low due to lack of use of our local airline carriers like air-peace etc.. Nigeria's are among the Top 5 Air-Travelers and we are not taking advantage of this figures. 4 Million Air Travelers pass through Lagos International Airport every year Alone. Nigeria Aviation Authority has to wake up and do better. We should have 3 Main International Carriers and at the minimum 10 Local Carriers.

Ask Atikuchukwu, he sold Nigeria Airways to Jimoh Ibrahim who was fronting for Obasanjo. Three thieves, one national treasury.

Airlines take years to establish not weeks like the SURE-P that Goatluck used to loot the treasury.

Are you sure that you are coming to equity with clean hands?

As far as I'm concerned this is a shallow article. What foreign airlines do is not to operate domestic routes, but rather to offer a route say PH to London and stop in Abuja to pick additional passengers as volume from only one city is usually not enough. The only city that can support direct flights out of Nigeria consistently is Lagos.

If passengers get on a Lufthansa flight to London from PH and the plane stops in Abuja, the passengers do not get down. Only those onboarding from Abuja get On to the plane.

So this does not compete directly with local airlines. Agreed you could argue that if this was not the case, the guy in PH would have to fly domestic to Abuja to enter his international flight, but nigeria is certainly big enough not to concentrate international flights in 2 cities (Lagos and Abuja). In my mind the cities designated as international airports currently are ok (Lagos, Abuja, Kano, PH and ENUGU) are ok and ensure relative closeness to everyone. Not sure if Kaduna is still an international airport.

If our domestic economy is vibrant enough we will have more demand for local flights. There are enough business men, Bank audit staff, oil and gas staff etc travelling back and forth across Nigeria to keep local airlines busy. After all how many arik or Air peace flights have you seen empty.

Air france from Paris flys into almost 20 US destinations. For example I am in Houston writing this and I flew airfrance into Houston. On my return I fly air france from Houston to atlanta and then on to Paris before landing in lagos, yet Delta is not crying blue murder.

Abegi, quit spreading beer-parlor rumours... cheesy
Nigeria Airways was LIQUIDATED because it was INSOLVENT, and its assets sold to satisfy creditors and pension obligations.

The last time Nigeria Airways (aka Nigeria Airwaste) flew, it had ONE servicable plane and about 10,000 staff...
Meanwhile its planes and assets were being seized by creditors around the world., whenever one of them flew out for repairs/service.
