Old habits die hard, old rivalries never do! Yeap. . .old rivalries will be rekindled when the Super Falcons of Nigeria confront their Camerounian counterparts, the indomitable lionesses tomorrow in the first semi-final match of the ongoing African Women Championship in South Africa. To get to this stage, the Super Falcons picked the maximum 9 points in Group A by defeating Mali (5-0), the host - South Africa (2-1) and Tanzania (3-0) while the Indomitable Lionesses qualified second in Group B with 7 points by drawing Equitorial Guinea (2-2) and beating Ghana (2-1) and Algeria (2-1) respectively. This match is the most important match for both teams as not only a place in the Finals and a chance to win the cup is at stake but also the ticket to represent the continent at the Germany 2011 Women World Cup as the 2 finalists in this competition qualify for the world cup. Coming into this match, the Nigerians have scored 10 goals and conceded just 1 with Perpetua Nkwocha accounting for 7 of the goals while the Camerounians have scored 6 goals and conceded 4. However, the statistics in this case don't seem to tell the full story as the Nigerians were arguably in the weaker group and have also been less than convincing with the type of play they've churned out while the Lionesses along with Equitorial Guinea have played some of the best football seen in this AWC. Also, analysts have criticized the Super Falcons for their seeming over-reliance on Perpetua Nkwocha and "individual play" arguing that if she's stifled and marked out, then they'll find it very difficult to score and win games. The Nigerian team has also been likened to a ''hourglass''. . . large at the two ends and thin in the middle, an allusion to their strong defence & attack but weak & almost non existent midfield. The Camerounians on the other hand play more as a team and rely less on individual flair. Like their male counterparts, they are very physical, brawny, tenacious and workaholic, full of running and have a "never say die" spirit which was exhibited in their matches against Equitorial Guinea and Ghana. . .coming from 2 goals down to force a 2-2 draw and coming from a goal down to beat Ghana 2-1. They are strong in all departments and don't seem to have a weakness. Nigeria and Cameroun are no strangers to themselves at this level and it must be stressed that the two played themselves twice in the 2004 edition hosted by the same South Africa. At the group stage, the Lioness showed a lot of guts storming back from 0-2 down to draw 2-2 against Nigeria but the Camerounian team then further surprised many by displaying their naivety on the big stage, going down 5-0 to the same Falcons on the final day. A repeat performance was to follow in 2006 and this time it was in the semi-finals and the Nigerian ladies dished out another 5-0 spanking to the Cameroun team. In the 2008 edition, both sides met in the losers final and the Nigerians were only able to win via penalty shout-out indicating the gap between both teams has been narrowed over the years. The best performance the Lionesses have gotten against the Nigerian ladies is a draw but history may not count for much as both teams square up tomorrow. The outcome of this match will surely be a difficult one to predict, at least now that octopus Paul is no more Kick-off is 9.30 AM Nigerian time (10.30 AM South African time) and it'd be on Supersport and SABC. . .lets hope our local stations will show the match now that we're at the knock-out stage but I wouldn't get my hopes too high if I were you |

The team has been practicing penalties in preparation for that eventuality but hopefully dem go do the job in 90 minutes Meanwhile, feelers from the Falcons camp (judging by the way they filed out in their last training session) indicates the most likely starting 11 will be Precious Dede Helen Ukaonu Osinachi Ohale Ulumna Jerome Onome Ebi Rita Chikwelu Amarachi Okoronkwo Glory Iroka Stella Mbachu Desire Oparanozie Perpetua Nkwocha I think this is a very strong starting 11 and should be able to hold it's own against the camerounian ladies. . . although I dey fear small. Anyhow sha, Falcons must win tomorrow even if dem nor carry the cup cos we must be at Germany 2011. . .by fire by force |

http://www.cafonline.com/competition/african-women-championship_2010/news/7118-one-on-one-with-the-cameroon-coach.html A One on One interview with Cameroun's coach. . . . Enow Ngachu has been with the Cameroon women team since 2004 and he has risen the ranks from being the assistant coach to the principal coach. He has attended every single edition of the Africa women championship from 2004 till date and he talks to CAF about his experiences and more.
Hehehe. . . .I laugh in greek. This joker of a coach actually thinks Cameroun can stand toe to toe with USA, Germany, China, DPR Korea, South Korea, Sweden etc in female football |

I foresee a red card to the Camerounian. Another yellow card to them. All we are saying, give us first goal. Ebere Orji hit the goal post |

Cameroon has been plain lucky not have concided as at 30 mins. Their keeper is awful and their game is too rough. A player just sent off, we have to take advantage of this. |
