NUC REPRESENTATIVES ARRIVE AE-FUNAI FOR ACCREDITATION EXERCISE
First set of National Universities Commission (NUC) Accreditation team arrive Alex-Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State to commence accreditation for the following programmes – Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Agri-business and Management, Theatre Arts, Business Education, Education Biology, Education Chemistry, Education Mathematics, Education Physics, Education English and Literary studies and Physical and Health Education.


PROF. SUNDAY ELOM (DVC ACADEMIC) WELCOMING THE ACCREDITATION TEAM

While presenting Vice – Chancellor’s welcome address to NUC Accreditation team, DVC Academic, Prof. Sunday Elom apologized for the unavoidable absence of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, whom he said was away on official assigment. He noted that accreditation exercise is indeed vital to the existence and relevance of the university system. Speaking with the team, Prof. Elom admitted his faith in the National Universities commission to carry out their duties diligently. He expressed appreciation to the Commission in using the peer review mechanism towards ensuring quality work and respect for the Nigerian University system. He noted confidently that the University is prepared for the exercise and is fully committed to respecting the NUC position in implementing all resulting advice and recommendations that will be made at the end of the exercise and thereafter prayed for the fruitful stay of the team on campus.

Theatre Arts had Mr. Dennis Tumba, who represented Executive Secretary of NUC, with Prof. E.Mabel of University of Abuja as team leader, Prof. Doki Gowon of Benue state University and Prof. Umar Buratai of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

Physical and Health Education team was made up of Mr. Daniel Sanusi, NUC representative, Prof. O.A Adebgesan of University of Ibadan,team chairman, Prof. Sadiq Ismaila of Bayero University, Kano and Prof. E.I Achalu of University of Portharcourt.

Education English and Literary Studies was made up of Mr. Olujimi Anthony Awobgile who represented NUC while Prof. Kolawole Clement Olaniran of University of Ibadan, team chairman, Prof. Chinwe Muodumogu of Benue State University and Prof. Nnadi Chukwuma of University of Abuja.

Prof. E. Mabel, on behalf of the teams, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for the warm reception given to them and assured that they would be objective in their work as they are people of integrity. She affirmed that their agenda is not to victimize the university but to effectively carry out the accreditation exercise.

On return for the exit report, Prof. Mabel acknowledged that the different segments of the curriculum, philosophy, teaching and learning, space environment were commendable. Prof. O.A Adegbesan, commended the university, in areas where they complied with NUC regulations such as curriculum, admission requirement and staff- student- ratio and as well pointed out areas that needed some adjustments.

Team leader for Faculty of Education, Prof. Kolawole, admitted that they found the philosophy and objectives of the Faculty well-articulated and had no challenges carrying out the accreditation responsibilities.


DVC, PROF. SUNDAY ELOM RESPONDING TO THE REPORT

Prof. Elom, who received the official report of the exercise on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, appreciated the team and promised that urgent measures would be taken to address the issues raised while assuring that all recommendations will be considered for amendments in line with NUC guidelines. Speaking further, Prof. Elom informed the team that University Management accepts the report, as he believes the accreditation exercise was carried out in good faith.

In line with the Go-green agenda of the University driven by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba, DVC Academic urged team members to plant trees in support of the vision to transform the University to “Campus in- a- Garden” which they gladly obliged.
